I take a holistic approach to helping clients overcome challenges and meet their goals, often incorporating mindfulness -based interventions.
Pain is a part of life, but suffering doesn't have to be. Difficult or painful experiences can contribute to suffering in many forms, including depression, anxiety, lack of self-compassion, ineffective behaviors, and relationship struggles. I believe that through pain, we have the opportunity to nurture the strength and wisdom that each individual already holds.

Modern life is stressful. We often feel like we don't have enough time, enough money, enough energy, or enough confidence in ourselves. We spend too much time feeling anxious or depleted. There is an alternative to the constant, unrelenting treadmill and chaos. There is another way of being present in your life and available to those you love. I practice Mindfulness -Based Psychology and Mindful Self-Compassion. By learning these skills, you can begin to slow down, befriend yourself, and make choices that reflect and further your values and dreams, rather than those imposed on you.

I utilize a combination of trauma informed Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, DBT, Mindfulness , and Solution Focused Therapy to help navigate problem areas.
I believe in the power of human connection to get us through life’s challenges. Reaching out for help in our most vulnerable moments can be difficult and overwhelming. Our self-talk can be so convincing that we should figure things out on our own or that our problems aren’t as bad as they could be, that we remain stuck. I will meet you where you are in your challenge, providing a safe and calming environment to explore avenues to find hope and healing. My work takes a holistic approach integrating the mind, body and spirit connection to help you create a strong foundation to meet those challenges.

I specialize in working with mindfulness /emotion regulation to address a history of suicide ideation and self-harm, clients experiencing trauma symptoms such as PTSD and complicated grief, and clients within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Life is hard. It did not come with a manual so we would know what to do when we are struggling. Knowing that there are people out there that can help is what makes therapy so important. I’ve had the pleasure of working with individuals, professionals, and families to address different mental health illnesses for the past five years. I believe that the best kind of therapy is one in which I work with you to identify your goals in life, utilize your strengths, and come up with a plan to make your best self a reality.

My training has been quite diverse thus I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and needs. My ideal client is an individual who understands the need to seek help or guidance and is willing to work with me on these concerns. I have over 18 years of clinical experience and enjoy working with "systems" (e.g., schools, families, support systems). I prioritize consultation with schools when addressing school-based behaviors such as underachievement, learning disabilities, and bullying concerns. I take a "strength-based" approach, always attempting to work within the clients talents and building from that point forward.

I strive to understand people in all of their complexity. My goal in therapy is to see through a client’s lens as much as possible, and then work with them to find positive changes they can make in their lives. Drawing heavily from the evidence-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy model (ACT), I help clients to be more mindful of the interface between their internal and external experiences. When we become more aware of the patterns in our thoughts, emotions, and actions, we can be intentional about releasing what is not helpful to us.

I enjoy working with people of all ages; from a former client, "I never had the fear of being judged. I could just talk and Miranda would listen. She always had the logical thing to say and knew what I needed to hear at that moment even the hard things! It never felt like therapy to me and I think that was why I felt so comfortable. It was nice to know someone was listening."

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
