I have 29 years experience working with clients' PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), depression , anxiety, OCD, dysfunctional relationships, personality disorders, mood disorders, and many other issues that impact an individual.
I am sorry but at this time I am not seeing new clients. Please check back in August. I do offer telehealth and am glad you are here looking for a counselor, especially when you are probably not on top of your game. I know that when you first call you will have questions and that our first meeting needs to reassure you that you made a good choice in starting this journey. A plan can be developed, you will leave the session knowing someone understood what you were saying, and that there are solutions to your problems. You came to this site for a reason, so give me a call or email, don't put off what could be a very good step.

I have experience treating a variety of mood disorders, including anxiety, depression , and trauma.
I strive to understand people in all of their complexity. My goal in therapy is to see through a client’s lens as much as possible, and then work with them to find positive changes they can make in their lives. Drawing heavily from the evidence-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy model (ACT), I help clients to be more mindful of the interface between their internal and external experiences. When we become more aware of the patterns in our thoughts, emotions, and actions, we can be intentional about releasing what is not helpful to us.

, depression , anxiety, bipolar), trauma and grief, SPMI, eating disorders treatment, and substance abuse concerns.
Beginning the journey of therapy can be a difficult process but incredibly rewarding and life changing; it can assist you to discover parts of yourself that you may not have known existed. Further daunting can be the unknowns of what therapy can look like. I hope I may ease these unknowns by sharing what you can expect from working with me. My approach to counseling is very collaborative, where we first begin with gathering your narrative of what makes you “you,” next identifying the concerns that brought you to therapy, and creating a plan to address the concerns and assist you in growing towards the path and person you want to be.

Are you struggling with anxiety and depression due to life transitions such as divorce, infertility, the death of a loved one, college stress or the loss of a dream, and seeking Christian counseling? Have you experienced trauma in your life and you feel stuck under the weight of worry and fear? Are “shoulds” and “musts” leaving you paralyzed with thoughts of “I’m not good enough” and “I don’t matter”? Often people wait to reach out until they feel depleted, resentful, and ashamed. I believe we get stuck due to our thinking, and the way we get unstuck is to change our thinking! But is it possible? Yes! It doesn't have to be this way.

I have experience working with depression , anxiety, trauma/PTSD, personality disorders, life transitions, stressors, grief, drug and alcohol use, and more.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is learn how to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. It takes courage to be vulnerable, and it takes courage to realize you may need some help. I provide therapeutic services to individuals and couples who are struggling with coping, depression , anxiety, low self-worth, trauma, and addiction. I also provide Substance Use and Co-Occurring Evaluations. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you can take a moment (and a deep breath) to see how I can help.

Navigating a journey, seeking therapy, figuring out meanings, setting and reaching intentions, transitions in life, making changes, and all the “stuff” that comes with that can be overwhelming. My goal is to help it become less overwhelming and more manageable. I strive to create a safe environment where individuals feel heard which allows space for change. Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
