I became a therapist because your life is worth my time. I'm so glad you're here. Whether this is your first or fifth time seeking a therapist, welcome! Regardless of the reasons why you're interested in starting or continuing your therapy journey, it can be complicated to be at this stage of trying to find the right fit for you. I'm happy to help. I approach therapy through a collaborative and humble lens. I may have degrees and licenses that make me educated in this field but I am not an expert of YOU. So you and I will work together to make the changes you see fit and identify the areas of life you would like to improve.

I have a passion for helping people who are in need. I want to help them develop the skills necessary to do whatever it is they want to do. In my field, that's often a goal of sobriety and recovery. It's not for me to decide what is best for my clients. I try to help them determine if their current actions help or hinder their own goals in life. I offer a place where my clients can be themselves without receiving any judgement from me. I help clients in their areas of need, and in the areas in which they want help. I believe an honest, caring therapeutic relationship is important to provide the help my clients need.

It takes immense courage to seek counseling when you find yourself struggling. Life's more challenging experiences often leave us struggling with hurt, doubt, or feelings of being overwhelmed. For many, this can be daunting and the idea of talking about our struggles with a stranger may sound uncomfortable and even scary. My focus is to provide a safe space by listening with compassion and curiosity and without judgement. Together we can discover your journey to a fulfilling life defined by you.

I believe in helping people build a life worth living, not just surviving. We often struggle most when we are lacking balance in our lives - and I believe that applies to all things, particularly in the way we view ourselves and the world around us. I have experience working with a variety of concerns including: anxiety, depression, interpersonal difficulties, identity concerns, trauma, borderline personality disorder, substance use problems, and life transitions - all with a focus on building healthy coping skills to regulate emotions, tolerate distress, and improve mindfulness.

I'm so happy you're here. I believe one of the most essential elements to truly effective therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. It is inevitable that a therapist’s personality is present in each session and mine frequently shows up through warmth, humor, openness, empowerment, and curiosity. I aim to be my authentic self in our sessions and strive to create a safe and supportive space for you to do the same. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so I tailor my style to fit your needs and goals. Therapy can be hard work and I am here to make it more comfortable and meaningful for you.

C.S. Lewis once observed, "As soon as we are fully conscious we discover loneliness." I believe that therapy presents an opportunity to alleviate this condition by offering a safe and confidential space for individuals to discuss their deepest and most profound thoughts and emotions, those which they might believe no one else has experienced. Once these feelings and ideas are vocalized to another person, the result is often an increased sense of connection and a path towards healing.

Throughout my life, schooling, and work as a therapist, I’ve learned a lot about people and the importance of connection. I believe in the power relationships can have in the healing process, so I not only enjoy working with families, couples, and individuals to improve their relationships and individual functioning, but I also strive to be someone with whom my clients can have a strong connection. My belief is that such a client-therapist relationship gives space for vulnerability and promotes change.

Sometimes life is hard and overwhelming. It is even harder and more overwhelming when you are kid who does not yet have the ability to understand what is going on inside you or the words to express what you are thinking and feeling- even though the grown-ups in your life often expect you to. This often leads to behavioral struggles, frustration, and chaos for both you and the adults in your life, which can further lead to relationship difficulties, unhealthy coping patterns, and low self-esteem. I understand the struggle and can offer acceptance, advocacy, and support.

Life has a way of letting us know when it is time to reach out. Are you feeling overwhelmed, burdened, stressed, and ready for change, but not sure where to begin? Do you feel you have more to offer, but feel stuck? Then counseling is the right setting to have a conversation that may open doors to problem solving and provide tools for guidance. Growing up working in the family restaurant and being active as a student athlete, I didn't have the tools to manage the stress around me. While I was helping others to perform as a personal trainer, I knew I needed to become a counselor to help in a more wholistic way.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Lincoln?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
