For couples therapy I utilize EFT and Gott man Method.
The search for a therapist can be a daunting task. Dr. Wahl recognizes this and is intentional about creating a comfortable, compassionate, and confidential setting for therapy. “I get excited to meet with people who have the motivation to participate in the life enhancing path of therapy. I have seen many people grow, heal, improve their ability to love and be loved, find more purpose and meaning, improve their work, and, in general, improve their sense of how to do life well. The first move is to make an appointment so we can get this rolling for you.” – Dr. Wahl

I look forward to working with adults and teens who feel life is out of their control or who struggle with allowing themselves to be in the present moment. Anxiety and depression can draw our minds towards the past and the future. This makes it difficult for us to appreciate what surrounds us. Additionally, adult and teen athletes and musicians struggling with perfor mance issues can feel overlooked by others. Common issues I have found include eating disorders, body image issues, struggles with personal identity, and more.

I want you to imagine leaving your home in the morning, navigating the busy roads to work. You’re tired, barely focused and dreading the day ahead. You pull into the parking lot of your employer, taking a deep breath. You grab your work things and walk towards the office. You stop, frozen in the sea of mental waves, a thousand thoughts crashing into one another, unable to organize them. Everything stops for a moment, a beacon of clarity forms in the distance and you’re able to hear one calm thought. You ask yourself “am I on the right path?”

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain about the next steps in your life? Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or just the pressures of daily life, it can be tough to navigate these challenges alone. I understand how hard it can be to reach out for help, but taking that first step can lead to meaningful change.

I use person centered, CBT, Mindfulness, Attachment theory, and Existential therapy in an eclectic and tailored manner to help you with what you set out to accomplish in therapy.
It is important that my client wants to change and is motivated to do so. I use honesty and directness within session as strengths and celebrate clients for who they are. My ideal client is someone who is searching for more in life and wants someone to come alongside them to ask the hard questions, or to make the tough observations. I like to challenge clients to be the best they can be, for we all can do better, we can all be better; present company included. Growth and healing are a journey, not a destination. Faith is important and I welcome discussions of all faith/ideologies.

Around 40% of the effectiveness of therapy is your relationship with your therapist! The next 30% is your own coping skill set. I pride myself in being a down to earth, relatable counselor, and I enjoy collaborating with my clients for their mental health care! With 18 years of well-rounded experience in the field, I use a combination of theories and techniques to first build a trusting and empowering relationship and then work together to reduce the suffering that comes from mental health issues or life's stressors. I believe clients are looking for connection and for a counselor they can relate to, to help with their problems!

You might not be able to stop bad things from happening, but you might be able to someday say out loud “wow, I feel completely at my limit, but I can manage this".
Dealing with overwhelming stress is terrible. How many times have you “not made the smart choice” to cope with anxiety, stress or sadness? How often do you say to yourself “I hate feelings”? Do you often think “what is wrong with me, I know that was a terrible idea. I don’t even know what I was thinking?”. Maybe you even wonder if you are beyond helping, or that you have no idea where to start. Well, you might not be able to change things happening in your life, but you can change how you adapt and view those stressors.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
