In my practice Whole HEART, PLLC, I welcome the opportunity to work with adolescents and adults who want to find healing of mind, body, and heart. Whole HEART stands for finding (H)ealing through (E)xposing, (A)ccepting, (R)ising and (T)hriving. Exposing: pain, trauma, and negative self-beliefs. Accepting: that these may be part of your story but they do not have to continue to define you. Rising: learning to stand back up and not letting these things hold you back from the life you want to live. Thriving: pursuing a life of fullness and creating the person you want to become.

Life can be tough sometimes. Let me be the person you can trust, the one who is going to listen to you without judgement. People are by nature relational. It is natural to feel like you need to express yourself and be vulnerable when life may not be exactly what you thought or hoped it would be. Talking to someone who is non judgmental and whose sole purpose is to come alongside you to help you navigate through your struggles is where I come in.

This is your journey and we can make it more relevant together! Being human is intrinsically connected to the need to adapt and evolve. To survive in ancestral environments, we had to develop ways to cope with external demands, but what happens when modern civilization no longer poses a threat to your survival? Perhaps the answer to many of your questions is found on this theory. During your treatment, we will explore the causes and mechanisms that make your problems what they are today, identify a plan to confront and resolve those issues, and develop better coping skills to protect you from intrusive thoughts - Welcome to therapy!

Stress and anxiety can leave us feeling overwhelmed, unsure and alone. You may be fed up with feeling constantly on edge, explaining it to others who don’t understand, or shame over feeling the way you do. You might not even remember a time when you didn’t feel this way. Either way, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel relaxation in your body. You’re ready to feel like you can handle what comes your way. You’re ready to feel at peace with your decisions. Most of all your ready to live your life with purpose. You’re ready for a new “normal” and I can help you get there.

I enjoy working with a variety of clients, however I am primarily looking for clients who are men from 18 to 92. I have a strong background in addiction therapy of all kinds. I would like to focus on men who are veterans (combat or not), married men, divorced or separated who are struggling with mental health issues or supporting those with mental health issues. Some of my passions include working with men who are dealing with sex addiction on some level, adultery, fatherhood, and the like. I also enjoy doing business and career coaching for both men and women who are looking to advance in their careers and/or self-employment.

The search for a therapist can be intimidating, as you are choosing someone with whom to share your most intimate thoughts and feelings. It's not easy to choose, but I wanted to share a bit about myself to help you see if we might be the right fit. I'm probably not exactly what you think of as a therapist, as I am a former airborne soldier with the United States Army. I'm not the prim and proper, super put together therapist who just tells you everything will be alright, (though it will)! Instead, I'm the a therapist who walks beside you on your journey to see things differently, make changes in your life, and advocate for yourself.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
