As humans, we are always gravitating towards healing, trying to right ourselves and to shift from surviving back into living. But sometimes, we get stuck with uncomfortable emotions that we aren't exactly sure what to do with. In therapy, I offer a safe place to unpack all of that uncomfortable stuff and decide what is worth keeping and what is just too heavy to keep lugging around day after day. If you are ready to unpack, I am here for it. If you want to learn how to be assertive, how to set boundaries effectively and how to show up for yourself even when others can't or don't, I am absolutely on board.

I help people find their courage to learn new behavior, build better relationships, embrace change, overcome negative effects of damaging life experiences, resolve grief, and transform losses into well-earned wisdom and productive action. Getting "unstuck" requires new perspectives, persistence while sorting through complexities and confusion, and practice with new skills and strategies. I strive to be kind, ethical, informative, interactive, responsive, and a rigorous "coach" who can be helpful to you.

Dealing with anxiety can be difficult. Fortunately, research has shown many strategies that can help alleviate some of the worry and discomfort. When we combine these techniques with a practice of self-empowerment, the possibilities of healing increase tenfold. One of the best things that we can do for ourselves is to learn to recognize, embrace, and utilize our inner strengths. My counseling service is designed to help you find your inner champion while providing you with teachable tools that you need to overcome current and future obstacles.

Endometriosis, infertility, and other reproductive and chronic health challenges, are not only physically taxing, but they also can impact an individual's emotional, vocational and social wellbeing. Have you ever felt overwhelmed, stuck, burdened by fears, and quite simply lost? I think we all have at one time or another. My life has brought me through a winding path and, along the way, I have met some amazing people... clients that are doing their best despite the burden they carry. Despite my two master's degrees and my 20+ years of counseling experience, I continue to get chills when clients have that "ah-ha" moment and start on a new path in their life.

Change can be a difficult process. It may seem that some people around you know exactly who they are even when faced with major life changing experiences. But for most of us, we need time to adjust to major changes. Along the way to becoming who we truly want to be, we can be faced with ideas of who we think we should be and the influence of what others expect of us. I like to find the strengths in people and focus on their abilities. I get excited about the transformations that people go through as they grow. I want to help you become the best version of yourself throughout this transformation.

Experiencing loss is an inevitable part of life - it happens to us all; loss of a loved one, job or career changes, or even health issues can create feelings of grief, decreased confidence and loneliness. Working to find a sense of 'normal' again, independence and contentment can be challenging when going it alone. Even with a great support system we can feel secluded in the feelings that we are experiencing but we don't have to; help is out there.

How can I find a therapist in Wilmington?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
