Welcome to the wonderful world of searching for a therapist. I often tell my clients that finding a therapist is like finding someone to date. It is quite exhausting. To help you narrow down your search, I focus on individuals whose difficulties are primarily
Obsessive
-Compulsive Disorder (
OCD
), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and/or multiple types of Anxiety Disorders. If you are looking to for a therapist to vent to, I am probably not your ideal therapist. I work with my clients to really challenge their thinking and into areas that "seem" impossible with a little bit of humor and a whole lot of authenticity.

OCD
or severe anxiety/panic.
You know the phrase, “You have to help yourself before you can help others?” It may ring especially true for you, someone who is running on empty, trying to do everything for everyone. You may feel exhausted, anxious or lack motivation. You may be wondering how much longer you can keep this up. I teach people pleasers and perfectionists to be at peace with their own decisions without worrying about causing conflict or disappointing others. If you want to say no and mean it without guilt or fear I’d love to support you getting there.

It is an honor for me to have the opportunity to help others work through personal, relationship and other life issues by way of developing a strong therapeutic relationship. My primary goal in therapy is to establish and maintain a safe, trusting and accepting environment. I work from primarily ACT and DBT frameworks. Both of these therapies use Mindfulness strategies and other skills to "get you out of your head" and into living life to the fullest. Mental health and physical health are intimately intertwined. I often incorporate mind-body connection practices into treatment. Combining these techniques can elicit powerful change.

Anxiety is stealing from you. It takes your sleep, joy, freedom, and peace of mind away from you. Sometimes you just feel paralyzed, unable to move forward. It leaves you feeling exhausted and unmotivated. You worry that your kids are learning to worry from your example. You've tried pushing the thoughts away. They are about something from your past or fears for what might happen now. Pushing them away isn't working, and you are ready to try something else.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
