I enjoy working with couples in the “considering marriage ”, pre- marital , and marital phases, addressing all aspects of relationship, from intimacy to finances to faith.
I’m a therapist committed to helping individuals learn how to name their values and make positive changes toward the person they’d like to become. My work focuses on identifying beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. My mission is to serve as my client's guide towards vulnerability, self- acceptance, and connection. My work with couples acknowledges that 69% of conflict in relationships is perpetual. Therefore, it's a worthy pursuit to learn how to navigate conflict lovingly, find shared meaning, and be able to align as a team.

In relationship counseling, I’ll help you work together to problem-solve areas of conflict, name what your want in your marriage and solve communication issues.
You feel drained, exhausted and completely frustrated. Your partner is clueless about how to connect with you and you are sure there is no possible way you could make it clearer! They’re just as angry and frustrated. The tension is palpable. And you feel, naturally, angry, lonely, tired. It’s painful. You have put your heart in to this relationship and you are not ready to throw in the towel but the attempts you each make to fix it only land with a thud and result in you both feeling like a failure.

I have had good success with working with the resolution of depression and anxiety with clients for over 35 years. I work with people who are trying to improve their marriage or reluctantly must decide another direction. Sometimes men are ambivalent about trusting therapy. While the national norm is that therapist caseloads are 70/30 % women more than men, my norm is an even split between men and women. Men do find they can make headway on stubborn relational or emotional issues. I also see adolescent boys as they make their transition into young manhood.

Cognitive-behavioral therapies, including "DBT"; John Gottman's marital research, and most importantly, clarification of clients' own faith and values often provide foundation for resolving roadblocks.
I help people find their courage to learn new behavior, build better relationships, embrace change, overcome negative effects of damaging life experiences, resolve grief, and transform losses into well-earned wisdom and productive action. Getting "unstuck" requires new perspectives, persistence while sorting through complexities and confusion, and practice with new skills and strategies. I strive to be kind, ethical, informative, interactive, responsive, and a rigorous "coach" who can be helpful to you.

I specialize in treating relationships. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with individuals, couples and families seeking fulfilling, peaceful lives. The majority of clients are individuals and couples seeking answers to have better, more meaningful relationships. Therapy starts withy understanding current struggles in a "systems" framework. We look at patterns; of affection, conflict, repair, relating, reacting. Common issues include: communication, infidelity, feeling a lack of respect, divorce, parent/child discord, and relational harmony goals. Therapy is provided with warmth, thoughtfulness and empathy.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
