Welcome to the wonderful world of searching for a therapist. I often tell my clients that finding a therapist is like finding someone to date. It is quite exhausting. To help you narrow down your search, I focus on individuals whose difficulties are primarily Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD),
Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (
ADHD
), and/or multiple types of Anxiety Disorders. If you are looking to for a therapist to vent to, I am probably not your ideal therapist. I work with my clients to really challenge their thinking and into areas that "seem" impossible with a little bit of humor and a whole lot of authenticity.

I see therapy as the process of learning to tap into your inner source of strength, especially when life becomes difficult or overwhelming. It can also be an incredible journey leading to personal growth and the ability to trust yourself. I get that looking inward isn't always easy, so that's where I come in - to help guide you through this process in a safe, nurturing and supportive space. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders, adult
ADHD
and in working with clients to build stress management, distress tolerance and emotion regulation skills. I, like all Honeybee providers, am an LGBTQIA+ affirming clinician.

I also have a passion working with those who suspect or have been diagnosed with
ADHD
.
You know the phrase, “You have to help yourself before you can help others?” It may ring especially true for you, someone who is running on empty, trying to do everything for everyone. You may feel exhausted, anxious or lack motivation. You may be wondering how much longer you can keep this up. I teach people pleasers and perfectionists to be at peace with their own decisions without worrying about causing conflict or disappointing others. If you want to say no and mean it without guilt or fear I’d love to support you getting there.

Do you ever lie awake at night, unsure of who you are anymore? That you feel lost about who you are and where you should be in life? Your kids are getting to the age where they're less dependent on you, and realize you don't know how to define yourself outside of "mom." Or maybe you have drifted from your partner, and you're not sure if you even want to be in a relationship anymore. Perhaps the more you think about it, the more you realize you aren't so sure about your sexual orientation. Or your kid has gotten an Autism or
ADHD
diagnosis and the report seems strikingly similar to how you would describe yourself.

I evaluate/treat
ADHD
with PCPs.
Feeling broken or overwhelmed? I understand. I've done much research on addiction, codependency & adult children from dysfunctional families. It is possible to overcome barriers to intimacy and learn why we repeat the same relationship mistakes over and over again in new relationships or why we choose unhealthy people. We can change and think differently. It takes effort and accountability, but there is help and hope. Learn from your past. Don't continue to be its victim and let the past determine your future. I work with mental health and all kinds of addictions (substances and behavioral). Let's talk. Live life!

I am a therapist specializing in working with children (ages 3-12) & their families as well as parents struggling with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
