Hi, I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) in the state of North Carolina. I received a master's degree in counseling, along with a graduate certificate in substance abuse counseling, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2010. While in graduate school, I decided to specialize in Motivational Interviewing (MI) when I discovered how well the “spirit of MI” (partnership, acceptance, compassion, and empowerment) fit with my perception of how we change and grow.

Currently accepting NEW clients! You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or disconnected in your relationships—especially during times of change. Life transitions can bring up anxiety, uncertainty, and questions about who you are and what you want, even if things look “fine” on the outside. You may be looking for clarity, relief, and a way to feel more grounded and secure in yourself and your relationships.

Life is a journey, filled with experiences that shape who we are and the path we take. At times, the direction of our life may feel misaligned with our values, leading to struggles such as anxiety, depression, or family conflict. Stress, burnout, trauma, and self-doubt can cloud our sense of purpose, while perfectionism, relationship struggles, and loneliness can make the road feel overwhelming.
Counseling provides the guidance to realign your life with your values, helping you navigate these challenges with clarity and confidence. Whether you’re facing grief, addiction, or simply questioning your direction, you don’t have to walk

My experiences have included working with trauma, addiction & substance use, group therapy, attachment issues, mood disorders, personality disorders, performance-related issues, motivational issues, and couples/families.
Hey there. I would initially like you to know I'm happy you're giving yourself a chance to be a better you. I don't believe any of us can accomplish this alone! I do believe everyone suffers in some capacity. We live in such a vulnerable world, and suffering comes with that vulnerability. Suffering can look like trauma. Suffering can look like addiction. Suffering can look like binge-eating. Suffering can sound like, "I don't know who I am anymore." My goal is to help people better understand their patterns of suffering with the intent of "breaking free" from those patterns.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
