I have trained in trauma, adoption, mood disorders, stress, grief, issues related to military service, marriage and relationships.
Are you where you want to be in life? Are you happy with your situation? Are you happy with yourself? Sometimes people aren’t even sure what it is they want but they know they want something to change. That is why I am here. I became a marriage and family therapist in 2009 after watching family and friends struggle with the pressures of today’s society and with keeping relationships together in a world that has become increasingly mobile and dependent on technology.

Throughout my career, I have worked with a range of issues and diagnoses, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, marriage/family/relationship issues, specific phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, grief and loss, self-esteem, and much more.
Stress, anxiety and other difficult emotions may be a normal part of life, but they don't have to be in the driver's seat on life's journey. Through my 25+ years of experience as a counselor and my personal experience of having to reclaim the driver's seat from debilitating anxiety/depression, I have learned the truth behind Marcel Proust's claim that "The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes". It is my goal to help people gain new "eyes" through which to view current or past experiences.

Don’s training is to help clients trying to work through life adjustments like divorce, grief, parenting and attachment issues, where depression, anxiety, anger and distress are occurring.
I have a desire to come along side others as a professional counselor in order to provide others the life transformations experienced as a result of the counseling I received. Don is a “life veteran” who recovered from a divorce, raising two sons on his own, familial addictions, as well as other life struggles where the counseling strategies brought about effectual positive movement(s) and change away from those difficult circumstances. Don received a counseling degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he had the opportunity to incorporate Christian spirituality into his mental health practices.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
