Having worked in a variety of settings, including 15 years in wilderness therapy, I've found that there is something wonderfully inviting about working together in quiet outside spaces (or utilizing teletherapy in these times of Covid-19). Optimally I help clients utilize their individual strength, values and insight to help find a more peaceful state of mind and lifestyle. As human beings we are meant to build meaningful connections, and sadly there are an overwhelming number of deterrents to building those relationships with self, others, community, etc. We can and will tackle those difficulties together.

I am an EMDR therapist specializing in treating complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and borderline personality disorder.
I believe in the use of compassion, understanding, and evidence-based practices to help my patients achieve their goals. As people, we are not defined by our experiences, nor are we a result of that. Because of that, I like to use a scientific evidence-based, but also holistic and person-centered approach.

I work with adults and teens who need help with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma and PTSD, relationship issues, grief, self-esteem, and life transitions. Often when people come to see me, they’ve been struggling for a long time on their own and have been through really painful and difficult experiences in their lives. Many times there is a lot of shame and guilt involved in their situations. People feel stuck or that they’re unable to move forward in life. They are looking for an objective, caring person who can help them understand the underlying causes of their symptoms & give them the tools they need to heal and move forward.

Trauma and Addiction Specialist. I know personally how hard it can be to experience sexual/physical/emotional trauma/addiction/depression/grief/financial/relational ruin/overwhelming anxiety. Hoping to get through a day with the jaw clenching/palm sweating/handshakes/thoughts racing/heart pounding/doubting every idea/thought/emotion, asking will this be forever? Sometimes, you experience paralyzing nightmares or dreams that you are moving in slow motion and feel so alone and isolated when in a crowded room, and/or the crippling lethargy of depression. You matter. If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma, you’re not alone. Feeling overwhelmed or stuck can be exhausting, but there is hope. What you’re going through is real, and you deserve support.

Sometimes we are looking for someone to hold the hope for us. Throughout my life, I have been drawn to the story; the lore of identity, the narrative of families, the truth inside the metaphor. I feel it is of the upmost importance to provide people with a safe space to share their truth, a place to be honest and seen while challenging the stories we tell ourselves. As a person, I hope to be a lantern that can help to illuminate the way for you to reclaim your story. As a therapist, I received my bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Columbia International University in 2012 followed by my master’s in clinical counseling in 2016;

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I graduated with Bachelor in Social Work in 2010 and my Masters in Social work in 2015. I became fully licensed in 2018 and have been practicing ever since. Overall, I have been in the Social Work field for over 25 years and have been fortunate to work with an array of populations. My go-to Evidence-based Practice (EBP) are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Since it is rare that one person fits into one box, I have found these two modalities to be effective for one to learn new coping skills and add helping strategies to their toolkit.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists
What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.
What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?
Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.
What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?
DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.
What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?
The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
