Every flower needs both sunshine and rain to grow. Like flowers, I believe that our growth relies on our darkest days as much as it does our happiest. My goal is to assist clients in celebrating the sunshine and navigating through the rain.

I have worked with individuals facing adjustment issues, grief, anxiety/depression, gender and identity discovery, ADHD, trauma, changing family dynamics, and eating disorders.
For young children, I enjoy using directive and non-directive play therapy as resources for healing. Play therapy, for children, is talk therapy because children speak and process their emotions through play. Guardians are pivotal in play therapy because lasting change does not happen in therapy, it happens outside of it in the home.

I treat: Adults, pre-adolescents and adolescents, Trauma, substance abuse, process addictions, family dynamics, sexuality, sexual abuse, LGBTQ specific issues, relationship and attachment issues, self-harm, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, anger, ADHD, adoption issues, domestic violence, and bipolar disorder.
Wholeness leads to healing. I guide my clients to accept all parts of themselves and find balance in their lives. I entered the field of counseling with a passion for treating trauma (big T and little t trauma). Along the way I gathered some exceptional tools for doing so, including EMDR and a somatic approach to psychotherapy. Not so far removed from trauma, I have also developed a specialty in treating addiction of all kinds. I have seen the power of emotional healing to transform people's lives in ways they always wanted but didn't know how. I am here to help whenever the client is ready to do that brave and powerful work.

I have been counseling since 2020 and have worked with clients with a variety of diagnoses, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and level 1 autism.
I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, stress, and the challenges of navigating the world with a neurodivergent brain. A core theme I encounter in my clients is the experience of overwhelming thoughts and feelings that make it difficult to cope with and enjoy life. Sometimes this overwhelmed feeling comes from the double-edged sword of a nervous system wired more sensitively (allowing you to be more sensitive to beauty, details, positive emotion, but also more vulnerable to shifts in anxiety and mood), and sometimes the overwhelm comes from traumatic experiences or too much everyday stress.

Having been in the field for well over a decade has given me the opportunity to gain expertise in a variety of issues, particularly in treating anxiety, substance use, ADHD, existential angst, relationship issues, and transitions.
A strengths based approach is the foundation of my work. I approach sessions with compassion and an open heart. Therapy is big work, but can also be fun. We can hold space for laughter and tears, whatever is needed at any given time.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
