Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists in West Jefferson, NC
I have been counseling since 2020 and have worked with clients with a variety of diagnoses, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, and level 1 autism.
I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, stress, and the challenges of navigating the world with a neurodivergent brain. A core theme I encounter in my clients is the experience of overwhelming thoughts and feelings that make it difficult to cope with and enjoy life. Sometimes this overwhelmed feeling comes from the double-edged sword of a nervous system wired more sensitively (allowing you to be more sensitive to beauty, details, positive emotion, but also more vulnerable to shifts in anxiety and mood), and sometimes the overwhelm comes from traumatic experiences or too much everyday stress.

Are you a college student or new parent feeling overwhelmed during a time that’s supposed to feel exciting? Major life transitions—like starting college, graduating, or becoming a parent—can bring anxiety, self-doubt, and relationship stress. Many people I work with feel like they’re “supposed to have it together,” yet privately struggle with overthinking, replaying conversations, or wondering why a stage that should feel joyful feels harder than expected. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—many thoughtful, capable people find these transitions harder than they expected.

Do you have something on your mind? There are times when we all have thoughts running through our minds. Thoughts related to family, friends, relationships, school, love, spirituality, money, work, or happiness. Sometimes they are memories from your past that you're unable to let go. Maybe you can't sleep, maybe you can't eat. Maybe you have lost your purpose, who you are, what you're doing or why. It could be big, or just a small thing you want to let go. These situations can slow you down and pull your life to a stop.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by OCD, trauma, perfectionism, or disordered eating patterns that leave them stuck in cycles of fear, self-criticism, and exhaustion.
Therapy is where that change begins. Together, we work on breaking unhelpful patterns, building self-trust, and shifting the way you relate to yourself! Over time, my clients find freedom from the thoughts that once consumed them. They stop defining themselves by achievements or appearance and start living in a way that feels more present and balanced.

I am passionate about working with young children, adults, and college students who have experienced trauma, are managing anxiety/ OCD, and more.
I am a therapist that believes in change, that each individual has the ability to self-heal, but sometimes needs support to do so. Navigating our world and lives can be hard, and you don’t have to go through it alone. My role as your therapist (or your child's) is to act as a supportive agent, where we work collaboratively to achieve the goals you set for yourself. You would be encouraged to express your own experience through activities, verbalizations, or a combination that feels best to you in a safe space. I do my best to make sure everyone who comes into my office feels accepted as themselves, with no judgement whatsoever.

My clients tell me they can’t stop thinking about food. A large part of their day revolves around what they’ll eat next, and time with loved ones can start to feel stressful or even avoided because of worries about what will be “safe” to eat.
Often, people feel stuck in a cycle. They might feel like they’re “doing well” for a while, only to find themselves overeating or bingeing later, followed by shame, guilt, or frustration. Along the way, most have been given confusing, and often harmful, messages about their bodies and what they “should” look like!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
