For 30 years I have provided counseling services to couples, families, and individuals. I assist individual adults who are dealing with depression, relationship issues, childhood or adult trauma, or aging concerns. I work with clients to understand and resolve the effects of stress on the mind and body. With couples we focus on resolving underlying issues that impede communication as well as crises such as dealing with sexual or emotional infidelity and most other relationship problems. I work extensively with families dealing with addiction, parenting concerns, and with intergenerational family conflicts.

I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, stress, and the challenges of navigating the world with a neurodivergent brain. A core theme I encounter in my clients is the experience of overwhelming thoughts and feelings that make it difficult to cope with and enjoy life. Sometimes this overwhelmed feeling comes from the double-edged sword of a nervous system wired more sensitively (allowing you to be more sensitive to beauty, details, positive emotion, but also more vulnerable to shifts in anxiety and mood), and sometimes the overwhelm comes from traumatic experiences or too much everyday stress.

I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2019 and have since been working as a therapist with adults and teens to help them heal from a variety of mental health concerns.
You may have some insight into what you’ve been through, though you feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. On the outside, you look like you’re holding it together, but inside, overthinking, self-doubt, or shutting down can be exhausting. In our work together, we won’t just focus on managing symptoms. We’ll slow things down to understand the patterns underneath; where they come from, how they’ve made sense, and why they’re still showing up now. I’ll support you in building more steadiness day to day, while also gently challenging what may be keeping you stuck.

Before opening my private practice, I worked in university, school, and medical settings supporting adolescents and young adults.
Are you a college student or new parent feeling overwhelmed during a time that’s supposed to feel exciting? Major life transitions—like starting college, graduating, or becoming a parent—can bring anxiety, self-doubt, and relationship stress. Many people I work with feel like they’re “supposed to have it together,” yet privately struggle with overthinking, replaying conversations, or wondering why a stage that should feel joyful feels harder than expected. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—many thoughtful, capable people find these transitions harder than they expected.

I have over five years of experience helping youth, teens, and adults navigate mental health difficulties.
Sometimes getting through the day is an uphill battle. The things you love no longer feel enjoyable, day to day tasks feel impossible, and existing itself is becoming exhausting. Or maybe you're starting to feel like your emotions are taking over and making your life complicated and overwhelming. You've tried to make changes but no matter what and how hard you try it just doesn't seem to be getting better. It feels like it's no longer possible to deal with it all. If this sounds familiar, I can offer knowledge and skills to help manage difficult emotions and stress so you can pursue a life you feel is worth living.

I work with children, teens, and adults, using play-based strategies with younger clients.
At some point, many of us find ourselves carrying more than we were ever meant to carry. I support individuals who feel overwhelmed, burned out, or misunderstood - often navigating the lasting impact of trauma, anxiety, or depression. My clients are seeking more than just coping skills; they want to feel grounded, safe in their own skin, and respected for who they truly are. I provide a space that is neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and centered on honoring each client’s unique wiring and lived experiences.

Do you have something on your mind? There are times when we all have thoughts running through our minds. Thoughts related to family, friends, relationships, school, love, spirituality, money, work, or happiness. Sometimes they are memories from your past that you're unable to let go. Maybe you can't sleep, maybe you can't eat. Maybe you have lost your purpose, who you are, what you're doing or why. It could be big, or just a small thing you want to let go. These situations can slow you down and pull your life to a stop.

I approach my work with deep compassion for those who have been affected and shaped by the struggles of an addicted loved one. Like many in the mental health profession, my passion springs from my own painful experiences in a family with generational addictions. I am committed to bringing my authentic self to each therapy session. It is an honor to be fully present and to hold your trust as you discover the strengths and courage to address the obstacles that are preventing you from living a meaningful, values-based life.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
