Thank you for your interest in my practice! I am trained in the Transforming Touch modality. It is a Regulation-based approach rooted in the theory that when we experience ruptures during our developmental years, these disruptions continue to affect our lives at any age. These ruptures can be seen as challenges that are behavioral, psychological, spiritual and physical. Developmental Trauma affects every part of our growth and development. It orchestrates how we learn, how we mature, how we relate to others. Transforming Touch is an innovative way of supporting change in our nervous systems so that we can begin to hope and dream.

I have held a long passion for mental health counselling since I was young. I am certified in DBT which treats Borderline Personality Disorder, self harm, PTSD, suicidal behavior, substance use, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. My undergrad is in Psychology to better understand human thoughts, feelings, and behavior. I am driven to answer not just why people act in certain ways but also how they can improve their situations, thoughts and mental well-being. I aspired to become a therapist to help people overcome challenges and to be able to live their best life. My greatest passion is for adolescents.

Thank you for visiting my page! I am interested in providing supervision to LCMHCA's. Although I have a few months of experience providing counseling to children (intensive in-home services) and about a year of experience in the community (working in a primary health care setting), the vast majority of my counseling experience (12 years and counting) is in higher education settings. I have practiced at a community college, embedded in an athletics program at an HBCU, and as an embedded counselor for a college of nursing, college of natural resources, and college of education.

I get it, I understand that life is not always easy. There is a saying that I try to live by, "to live is to change, to live well is to change often". I invite you to challenge yourself to change. And most importantly to forgive yourself if at first you don't succeed. I worked in corporate America for nearly 30 years. I am comfortable with work related issues; with Adults dealing with Grief; individuals and couples dealing with relationship issues. I also enjoy working with mature individuals.

The poet Rumi said: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there." I'm committed to this metaphor for therapy- an open field that is a safe reprieve from outside stressful conditions. I am licensed as both Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), which enables me to diagnose and treat mental health issues, addiction and substance use disorders, and dual-diagnosis cases. It is important to me that each client is authentically respected with regards to their personal beliefs, cultural background, and every aspect of their identity.

You are stronger than you think - and sometimes, all it takes is the right support to rediscover that strength. I love helping clients tap into their resilience as they navigate life’s challenges. My clients often share that they feel more empowered to overcome internal barriers and build more fulfilling relationships at home and at work. Through decades of experience with individuals from diverse backgrounds and many types of families, including adoptive and LGBTQ+ families, I’ve learned to listen deeply and tailor my approach to the unique needs of each person I work with.

Nǐ hǎo / Hello! I am a licensed mental health therapist in Florida with over 20 years of experience helping individuals work through anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, school-related stress, relationship issues, and major life challenges. Many of the people I support come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally drained, or unsure how to move forward. I believe therapy works best when goals are clear, practical, and measurable, so we can track progress in a meaningful way. I also believe humor can be a powerful part of healing, helping create a more relaxed and human space for growth.

It is an honor for me to have the opportunity to help others work through personal, relationship and other life issues by way of developing a strong therapeutic relationship. My primary goal in therapy is to establish and maintain a safe, trusting and accepting environment. I work from primarily ACT and DBT frameworks. Both of these therapies use Mindfulness strategies and other skills to "get you out of your head" and into living life to the fullest. Mental health and physical health are intimately intertwined. I often incorporate mind-body connection practices into treatment. Combining these techniques can elicit powerful change.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
