My belief is that in order to create and sustain a happy, well-balanced life, we must first define what "happy" looks like, then figure out how to obtain it! This can oftentimes be daunting when experiencing the challenges of mental health, and significant life transitions. I have dedicated my entire career to partnering with individuals and families and meeting them where they are to work on achieving this goal. I regularly use mindfulness skills and always promote a trauma-informed approach to all we work on. Regardless, I work to meet you where you are and utilize appropriate interventions. My focus

Hey y'all, I'm Leslie and I utilize my 20 years of experience and trainings at the top research and intervention programs to tailor proven methods to your needs and create success. My clients are children, teens, and young adults, who are facing challenges with school or transitions. They often experience meltdowns or may retreat into themselves, and sometimes they express their feelings by acting out. Many of my clients have been trying to navigate feelings of hopelessness and not belonging in an overstimulating, high demand world.

You want to feel confident in yourself, and fall asleep without running through all the ways you "messed up" that day. You don't want the fear of failure or judgement to dictate every single thing you do. I'm here to help!

It's not easy being you in a world that so narrowly defines what it means to be "normal." There's so much pressure to conform. You might feel judged, misunderstood, or marginalized because of your LGBTQ+ identity or unique sexual expressions like BDSM, kink, or polyamory. These experiences can lead to isolation, communication barriers, and difficulties in finding accepting communities or partners who truly understand and respect your boundaries and desires. Let's work towards acceptance, self-love, and fulfilling relationships where you can be your authentic self.

Therapy is a unique experience for each person. It helps you learn about yourself, your relationships and how you interact with the world. It can be a place to find healing and self-understanding. I believe that society and culture impact our thoughts, feelings, and relationships. As a counselor, my approach is integrative, but grounded in attachment theory. I offer individual, couples, and family counseling. For couples therapy, I utilize Emotionally Focussed Therapy, which is backed by over 20 years of research on attachment relationship patterns. Anxiety takes over your life. My clients often find themselves feeling stressed, overwhelmed, frustrated and worried about their performance. Sometimes they give up because the nervousness and anxiety is unmanageable. Sometimes they are unsuccessful at setting goals because of their fear of failure or rejection. Sometimes they feel angry or shameful over the way they look or appear to others. These behaviors can be pushed aside or avoided by the use of unhealthy coping skills. My clients may appear victorious through a mask of perfectionism, but when crucial performances or events arrive, the fear of failure implodes their success.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
