I was in NY for the past 20 years and working at Columbia. I have transitioned to NC within the past few months in hopes to enjoy the slower pace and the sunshine. I believe reaching out to a therapist is one of the hardest things to do because of the stigma. My goal is to provide a caring, nonjudgmental space for you to express your true feelings of anger, depression, anxiety or even addiction. I believe your past unconsciously impacts your future and with a little patience, empathy and understanding can lead to a happier you!

Hi, I'm Kim! I help millennial women unpack their own childhood "stuff" while planning for or raising their own children. If Instagram keeps feeding you eldest daughter and/or toxic family dynamics memes, welcome! You're in the right place. Since you’ve found yourself here, I’m guessing you might say that you’re outwardly successful but still find yourself feeling inadequate. I'd also guess you’re feeling burnt out; like you are simultaneously doing too much and not enough. I work with women who are ready to untangle those patterns and reconnect with themselves, but don't know where to start on their own.

Combining a number of evidenced-based and complementary therapeutic approaches, I work with clients to achieve a greater sense of awareness, empowerment, and develop better solutions and strategies to resolve their intrapersonal and interpersonal issues and problems. I believe that, as people become more aware and accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding peace and contentment in their lives. Together we will work to identify goals, explore areas where you feel stuck or lost, approach it in a way that feels safe and manageable, and strive to improve resiliency, adaptability, assertiveness, and empowerment.

Do you feel anxious or overwhelmed no matter how hard you try to think your way out of it? You may be carrying unhealed trauma. Trauma doesn’t have to be a single event, it is just a fancy word meaning ‘wound.’ Just like physical injuries, emotional wounds affect both the mind and body. That doesn’t make you weak, broken, or ‘crazy,’ it makes you human. Our experiences can lead us to hold negative beliefs about ourselves, others, our higher power, or the world around us. I am here to say that your body has the wisdom to heal.

You’re tired of feeling disconnected in your relationship. Maybe you’re stuck in the same arguments, walking on eggshells, or feeling more like roommates than partners. One or both of you may shut down, get overwhelmed, or feel unheard no matter how hard you try. You’re not failing at your relationship—your nervous systems are caught in a cycle that made sense once, but no longer serves you.

Of course, sometimes life can be difficult. And for some of us, life has been difficult all along. Psychotherapy has the potential to not only address the difficulties that we experience but also has the potential to help us find a way to integrate healing so that we may experience joy and vitality again - or maybe even for the first time. I am happy to work with individuals, families and couples who are interested in exploring and understanding how they may be able to heal wounds, create stability and forge new and meaningful paths and/or relationships in their lives.

I know that deciding to reach out for help is not easy. It takes strength to admit that something is not working and to take that first step toward change. My name is Daniel Olaciregui, and for nearly a decade, I have been walking alongside people through some of the hardest moments of their lives — anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, and everything in between. I want you to know that whatever you are carrying, you do not have to carry it alone anymore.

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
