It feels like stress is ruining your life. This doesn't feel normal. In fact, you hate the word, "normal." Intrusive thoughts are the uninvited guests living rent free in your head. You wonder how you do it all, especially with the anxiety you feel inside. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is beat the voice in your own head. And figuring all that out on your own? I get it—It can be so hard! With some new skills, support, and a boost in confidence, you can overcome your spirals. Let’s turn down the volume on those intrusive thoughts. You will master how to ground yourself so you feel in control. So, now that you're here…

There's only one you! It’s amazing how alike we can be as human beings and yet so different. The best part is we’re all okay! Listen, we don’t have to be experts to know when something is not right. Just reach out. Some call it a leap of faith. Great, if you do ask for help-I'm ready and excited to get started on our journey. But if you aren't ready, I want you to remember that you ARE worth it!

Are you feeling overwhelmed? You've been trying to manage things on your own or with the help of family or friends, but finally decided it might be good to have someone to talk with who is outside the situation. It is becoming harder to function in your work and relationships and you want some relief.

Client's who work best with me are often not the clients who know exactly what they want or need in therapy, though that can be very helpful. Often they are simply people who recognise a need for help and are willing to engage in the process. You can go to any competent clinician and they should be able to support you with basic skills. What I draw out of people is not only what they want and need, but their strengths and special aspects that make them who they are in order to work through to a point where they can make healthy choice and live their "best life."

I believe in our resiliency and seeking out a life worthy of living for each of us. Most of us have experienced some kind of trauma throughout our developmental life span. Finding a life of meaning and purpose with loving connections brings about unity and wholehearted living. Learning valuable skills allows us to be able to live our best lives.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
