Maybe you’re tired of obsessing about your next meal and struggling with your body image every time you look in the mirror. Perhaps you’re constantly questioning if you’re enough, battling the belief that you need to be perfect in order to be loved. You might be someone who has trouble setting boundaries because your strong empathy leads you to prioritize others over yourself. Or, maybe you're someone who feels unseen and unsteady in a world that doesn’t affirm or offer safety for your identities. If any of this sounds familiar, then hi! I'm Ashley, owner of Bad Ash Therapy, and you’ve found the right place. :)

As a therapist, I foundationally work from the belief that all humans deserve to feel safe and at home in their bodies. In this messy world, we can often find ourselves not trusting our bodies and wanting to change them. Sometimes within that mess, people may find themselves coping in ways that do not address their deep, underlying needs. I believe in this therapeutic process, you can reconnect with those needs and serve them more intentionally, healing the deepest parts of yourself. My goal is not only to help you find that healing, but to also enjoy and accept the messiness along the way.

Whether you're dealing with anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or wondering if your brain has always worked a little differently, there's a way forward that doesn't require you to keep white-knuckling it.
To everyone else, you seem like you've got it all figured out; you're smart, dependable, high-functioning. What they don't see is how exhausting it is to maintain that version of yourself. Beneath the composure, your mind is rarely quiet. You're reviewing, second-guessing, predicting, trying to stay one step ahead of everything that could go wrong. Maybe you've always felt like you were working harder than everyone else just to keep up, or that you're too much and not enough at the same time. You've learned to seem more agreeable, more manageable, more "normal." Somewhere along the way, you lost track of your true self.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
