Are you feeling stuck—like there's a gap between the life you're living and the one you sense is possible? Are you overwhelmed by anxiety or weighed down by sadness. Maybe you're navigating heartbreak, feeling disconnected from your reflection, or unsure how to move forward in your work, relationships, or creative life. Perhaps you're someone with talent and drive—an artist, athlete, or professional—but find it hard to break through to the next level. Or maybe it’s simply hard for you to rest, to play, to feel at ease in your own skin. If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Years ago, I visited Ghana where I was introduced to a symbol called the “Sankofa.” The Sankofa translates to “go back and fetch” and symbolizes the importance of looking to the past in order to reclaim lost strength and wisdom. As a therapist, this deeply resonates with me. Often, parts of our past can feel too painful or overwhelming to revisit so we avoid them and do our best to “move on”. However, I’ve seen that even some of life’s most difficult experiences can also become sources of strength, growth, and a deeper understanding of ourselves.

"YOU REALLY CAN HAVE A LIFE OF ABUNDANCE, PEACE, LIFE, AND JOY!” You deserve to live a life that leaves you excited to wake up every morning. I Promise you that I am as real as a therapist can get! When you have tried things and they are not working for you, it's time to try something different, and I pride myself in being different and not like every other therapist. Keep in mind that currently I am working with couples and men. When working with couples both parties must be present, or the session will be cancelled.

Adults and teens ages 16 and up.
As a Black, queer, neurodivergent woman, I understand that simply surviving the day can feel like a battle. Living life at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities can be exhausting when we are forced to navigate a society built to oppress us. Surviving this world can often leave us feeling drained, trapped, and hopeless. These experiences and feelings often lead to depression, anxiety, and trauma. When we face so many barriers to wellness, it is important to find a safe and affirming space to work towards healing.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
