Addressing behaviors and finding solutions is a common form, but sometimes you might need more, like dealing with past traumas, without having to relive them.
I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing transitions in their life, whether it be stress, anxiety, or depression. Those that have been affected by trauma, find a safe haven here. Life's struggles do not have to overwhelm you. Teens are challenged daily by peers and stresses. My job is not to fix your problems but rather to help you discover your answers, without judgment. I offer different settings, based on your needs: traditional talk therapy, mindfulness methods or sharing amongst the horses and nature; the choice is yours. I invite you to pick up the phone and begin claiming your peace.

Reaching out for help shows bravery and takes courage. It takes a strong person to ask for support, and if you're reading this, that's you. Going to therapy doesn't mean there's something wrong with you or that you're weak. In fact, it's just the opposite. It shows that you're ready to face your challenges head-on and work towards being your true self. We will create a safe and welcoming space where you can figure out what you need and want, and what your goals are. Together, we'll focus on helping you reach those goals and overcome any obstacles in your way. This journey is all about you.

My approach is trauma-informed and client-centered, focusing on collaboration and honoring each individual's unique journey.
I joined the counseling profession to support clients experiencing life's challenges while seeking support to navigate their journey toward healing. Clients may be young adults or adults grappling with past or current trauma, grief, ADHD, eating disorders, or life transitions. They might be first responders, active duty military, veterans or part of a veteran's family, survivors of religious trauma or sexual abuse, or individuals exploring their spirituality. I aim to listen, support, and empower my clients while walking alongside them through their healing journey.

As a Christian counselor, I specialize in grief, loss, and trauma, helping adult women 21 and older to get on a healing path.
Do you find yourself feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or sad? Do you feel like others either don’t understand what you've been through or don’t want to talk about it? Perhaps you don't feel the freedom to talk about it, which can leave you feeling isolated, lonely, and wondering how you will ever be able to move forward. As a trauma-informed therapist, I understand that your body has self-healing capacities, but to access them, you have to give your body what it needs to heal. When you stay in a constant state of alert or shutdown, it has a detrimental impact on your brain and body. The good news is real change is possible!

Hello! I’m Karin Connelly, PhD. I’d like to offer you a way to relax, better trust yourself and feel empowered in your life. Do the habitual feelings and beliefs about yourself and your potential keep interfering with your making the changes you want in your life? Do the same interpersonal dynamics keep playing out in your relationships, even when that still small voice inside you clearly points in a better direction? Is it hard to slow down and trust yourself enough to live more freely—to simply be relaxed and openhearted, experiencing life directly and in alignment with your purpose?

Welcome and congratulations on choosing to embark on a different journey!! I have spent 25 yrs getting to know people of all ages: 6 - 80 years young. I find my passion lies with ages 17 and older. There seems to be a common struggle with finding a sense of meaning and purpose, or the loss of such, while juggling the demands of school, career, relationships and society. The more we lose ourselves, along the way, the more we lose the ability to cope with challenges in a healthy way. I believe in walking along side individuals in the exploration of what is missing or maybe not yet found! Are you ready to get started?

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
