My approach is psychodynamic but eclectic, in a way that is inclusive, creative and tailored to your needs. Psychodynamic psychotherapy works on the idea that there is more to be known about ourselves than we think. I am experienced working with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, family of origin issues, identity, grief, addiction, and trauma. Whether it is mental or emotional or pain that you are going through, I help you feel more aligned, quieter in your mind to gain insight and clarity.

So many people feel directionless, frustrated, or kind of stuck regarding their relationship, professional path, family situation, or just life in general. Regardless of the issue(s) you may be dealing with (you may not even know what's wrong/not quite right), therapy can help you build a steadier, more satisfying life with non-judgmental, honest feedback, and a supportive, reliable, therapeutic relationship. Based on your needs and goals, we'll work through the hard stuff together with patience, compassion (and maybe even some humor) to create a plan that will get you moving in a more positive, satisfying direction.

You are not what you feel. You are not even what you think. You are what you do. Acceptance & Commitment Therapy is about taking thoughts and feelings and using them for what they're supposed to be: data. They are merely to let us know how we're responding to our environment. It is up to our higher cognitions, our rational thoughts, to decide what to do with that information. My clients range from those with neurodevelopmental issues, mood disorders, and life adjustment events. The premise is the same in all cases: understand ourselves, what we feel and think, figure out WHY we think that way, and then decide what to do with it.

I blend Psychoanalytic Therapy, CBT, and a wellness-based approach to help you heal from the root.
Do you feel like you’re always “on,” carrying old pain, perfectionism, or the weight of being the strong one? Maybe you grew up feeling you had to survive, so you silenced your needs, hid your fear, and pushed through even when everything inside you wanted rest. Now, your anxiety, depression, and hyper-independence shows up in ways others don’t see. You want peace but don’t know how to slow down without guilt. Therapy with us is a place to pause, finally be seen, and learn compassionate ways to heal from childhood trauma and constant stress.

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you feeling "stuck" in your journey, or maybe frustrated with where you are in your life? When you add in anxiety, depression, frustration from being unable to focus, trauma, or any other mental health struggle, it can add to the whirlwind you feel like you're stuck in. Maybe you've been told "it could be worse," but this didn't make you feel any better. There are (usually) many different ways to look at a situation, but sometimes when you're in the thick of it, it's hard to see clearly. An outside perspective can help!

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
