Do you ever feel like your child is speaking a different language? From the moment they are born children reciprocally interact with their environments and learn as little explorers. They may not yet have the developmental capacity to verbalize what they need, want, feel or know but, they do communicate and express themselves through other, non-verbal methods such as play, art, sports and learned behaviors. As a parent, approaching your child with a spirit of learning from them through use of their language, by listening and observing is essential in the positive development of your mutual relationship.

Therapy is a mutually collaborative process. One that involves the client, the therapist, and the relationships and experiences that have shaped us throughout our lives. The reasons that bring you to this page are specific and unique to you. Finding the best therapeutic fit is no different. Often the path that led you here has been one full of reflection, questions, and challenging decisions. At times that path can also feel uncertain, overwhelming, or confusing. My hope for you is that this is a step in a direction towards peace and insight while providing comfort knowing that you no longer need to take additional steps alone.

Trauma (well, and life) can be tricky. It could be what clinicians call a “Big T” trauma in the form of abuse, neglect, living through a natural disaster, etc.; or it could be a “little t” trauma that stems from your 2nd grade teacher who had a flippant attitude toward you for reasons unbeknownst to you. Often times the “little t” traumas manifest for us in the same ways as “Big T” traumas. We may be aware of our trauma responses but often times we are clueless and just know that something weird is happening within and we can’t really identify or explain it. We just know it isn’t working for us and we want to change it.

Do you feel like the same scene is playing out in your life over and over again, but you have the inability to change the script? Do you feel powerless in managing intolerable feelings and even more consumed in trying to identify why you feel this way? Life is too short to surrender to bad relationships, hold grudges, let trauma control us, or be anxious/sad/angry all the time. My goal as a therapist is to help you be free of emotional pain, to achieve your goals, and find meaning/purpose in all aspects of life. I approach all sessions from a strength-based perspective, assisting you in drawing upon your inherent resources.
