Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience helping others cope with day-to-day stressors and changing long-standing negative thoughts and behaviors using a combination of psycho-education and cognitive restructuring. This leads to greater self-awareness and the ability to offer ourselves the same compassion and understanding that we would give others without a second thought. Learning to see ourselves in this more neutral and accepting way leads to greater self-esteem and decreases self-doubt and negative judgement.

Barry helps couples and men in New York and North Carolina untangle the intersection of intimacy, sex, emotion, and identity, especially when anxiety, performance pressure, porn overuse, low desire, or erectile unpredictability have created distance, self‑doubt, or cycles of avoidance. Sessions are active, structured, and shame‑free: we map the feedback loop between physiology, thoughts, attachment patterns, and relational dynamics so interventions feel precise (not generic “talk”).

I work best with people who are willing to try something different since presumably, what you have tried before was not effective or did not stick. I can help you better manage anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, work stress and social difficulties as well as feeling stuck in the past by things that are hard to let go of.

Parenting may be one of the most rewarding jobs we will ever have, but it is also one of the hardest. Sometimes the distance between what we have envisioned for our families, and what we experience daily, seems impossibly wide. You are not alone. There are families like yours facing similar challenges, from parenting a child with challenging needs and behaviors, to coping with overwhelming changes or stressors. Thankfully, decades of research along with proven and evidence-based techniques give us many options for how to support families just like yours.

You’ve gotten really good at showing up for everyone else, even when you’re running on empty. Maybe you’re feeling anxious, burnt out, or unsure who you are underneath all the roles you’ve taken on. Maybe you’re stuck in your head, second-guessing everything—your identity, your relationships, your desires, or what it even means to feel like yourself. Therapy with me is a space where you can stop performing. We slow things down, name what’s actually going on, and start making room for what feels more honest, more grounded, and more you.

Accepting New Clients. - Life is full of ups and downs, and at times we are pushed beyond our limits in ways that challenge who we believe ourselves to be. Under pressure, it’s easy to slip into reacting rather than living intentionally. Moving forward is not simple—our attention is pulled in many directions, resources feel scarce, and progress can stall. My role is to help identify and change the factors that keep you stuck, so you can move with greater clarity, purpose, and resilience. Together, we will define what success truly means for you and create a path that supports it.

Falling in love is easy; staying in love once you find it can be the difficult part. Let me help you create the relationship you desire. Relationships built on a solid foundation of trust, communication, compassion, bonding, & empathy require work & intention, but you don't have to navigate the road alone. I can help you along this journey. I'm a relationship expert and use research-based approaches such as Gottman, P.A.I.R.S. Essentials, C-CBT for PTSD, etc. However, I am not an expert on your life; therefore, the methods I use can be adaptive so that you can create interventions that are meaningful and fit your life.

I was a moody little menace as a teen - therapy was the only place I didn’t roll my eyes. It was the first time I felt truly understood, and it flipped a switch in me. Fast forward: now I’m the one creating that safe, validating space for others (minus the teen angst… usually). Whether you’re dealing with low self-esteem, relationship chaos, big feelings, or just trying to survive a life plot twist - I got you! I use a mix of CBT, DBT, ACT, and good old-fashioned human connection. Because let’s be honest, none of that therapy jargon matters if you don’t feel like your therapist gets you.

You work hard to do the right thing, put in extra hours to meet deadlines at work, and show up for other people. But showing up for yourself is harder. Some of the people who look up to you probably think your life is easy: "You make it seem effortless." But they don't see how much work goes into holding it all together. You take pride in how well you tolerate stress, and caring for others can certainly be a wonderful thing. But everyone deserves support, including you.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?
As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?
No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?
A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?
The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
