Your relationship with money is keeping you stuck in old patterns that are not serving you. You are using (or avoiding) money in a way that does not feel good to you. You are smart and "should" be able to figure this out, but you know deep down this is not about the numbers. Clients come to me with a range of deeper issues around money. If you have been keeping financial secrets from your spouse, can't stop thinking about past financial decisions, wish you and your partner could finally get on the same team with money, or find it difficult to enjoy spending money after growing up in poverty, financial therapy can help.

If you aren't sure where to start with substance use, you aren't alone. Questioning your relationship with alcohol or other substances, you might be seeking clarity on whether change is needed. Most people reach out for an initial assessment to find guidance on the best next steps. Feeling stuck and noticing that old coping strategies are no longer effective, you will learn to identify the thoughts and patterns driving unwanted behavior. I help you move forward by developing a personalized plan that aligns with your health goals and values, completely designed for lasting change.

In addition to working with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, and dating/relationship issues, I also have a lot of experience helping those suffering from addiction, particularly gambling addiction.
Life can feel overwhelming sometime — whether it’s anxiety that won’t quiet down, the weight of depression, or struggles with dating and self-confidence. My goal is to help you quiet the mental noise and find direction again. My approach is supportive, yet direct — honest feedback without judgment — so therapy stays useful in your daily life. I'll incorporate a mix of CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based techniques to help you achieve your goals and will continuously check-in to make sure you're getting what you want out of therapy.

I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. My life and career experiences have uniquely prepared me for working with those age groups. Prior to obtaining my Ph.D., I worked for twelve years as a high school teacher and athletics coach. This experience has provided me with unique insight for working with adolescents. Meanwhile, I have worked extensively as a therapist in college counseling centers and adult focused practices, providing me with a wealth of experience treating adults. In addition to providing therapy, I have worked at UNCG providing supervision to graduate students in the clinical psychology program.

Do you feel like you are all put together on the outside, but on the inside battling with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, burnout, or patterns that feel hard to control? You may be functioning at a high level, but still feel stuck, overwhelmed, or mentally exhausted. Others I work with are navigating high-conflict relationships or custody situations where stress and tension feel constant.

One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Cultivating a strong and healthy relationship with yourself is the foundation for healing and wellness in your life. I believe that you possess the strength and power within yourself to enact the necessary change in your life. My role is to help you discover these qualities and learn how to use them to your benefit. Together, we will walk through the uncomfortable terrain towards self-acceptance, because only when you accept yourself fully will you step into a healthier and more authentic way of living.

Gambling Therapists
How do gambling rehabilitation programs work?
There are both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. However, for some individuals, an outpatient facility may not offer enough hands-on care, and for other individuals, an inpatient facility may be too much. Both types of care have knowledgeable health professionals including physicians (in the case of residential programs), psychologists, counselors, psychotherapists, and recovered mentors.

How do gambling 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Abstinence and maintenance are key for 12-step gambling disorder programs. Individuals in a 12-step group rely on each other for support and accountability. In addition, there is often a spiritual element to these programs, whereby belief in a higher power can help the individual overcome their tendencies. If an individual genuinely wants to cease gambling, attending a 12-step program along with regular psychotherapy can be highly effective.

How long does therapy take for gambling disorder?
Recovering from gambling disorder takes time and effort. There’s no precise timeline for treatment, but a person can see change if they stick with therapy and if they have the will and desire to stop. Treatment for gambling disorder requires honesty in therapy, a commitment to understanding triggers, as well as the development of coping skills. Making lifestyle changes is also important, such as staying away from lotteries, online gambling, and casinos.

Is relapse a problem for those with a gambling disorder?
Gambling disorder is often chronic and can be life-long; therefore relapse may present a problem for some individuals. But effective treatment can bring a person’s life under control. To remain healthy and on track, the individual may need to regularly check in with their support group or psychotherapist. Frequently refreshing their tools of recovery can be helpful.
