I am an Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works to alleviate distress troubling individuals and their relationships when needed.
As a therapist, I believe that you already possess the tools needed to live a life of fulfillment, balance, and desired outcomes. However, sometimes due to a variety of reasons, we can become disempowered, afraid, or confused on how to utilize those tools in their entirety. Being able to recognize that those negative feelings are present is a great first step to tackling any issues you may face. I encourage clients to reach inside and rediscover those mental and emotional tools while also aiding them in discovering new tools that can help to improve their relationship with themselves and others.

As someone who has spent 30+ years looking for mental health support in one way or another for family , friends, students, and even myself, I feel that my greatest asset to you, as a member of your team, is the fact that I have personally experienced so many challenging situations that you can feel assured that I am right there with you.
It is my belief that the more we connect our actions in this life, to our purpose and values, while giving our minds and bodies the time to heal from past and present hurts... the better we will serve ourselves and in our roles as as parents, caregivers, workers, friends, partners, etc. I personally, sent my children to counselors, tutors, coaches, etc., while never (until very recently) getting much needed support for myself. Through talk therapy, Reiki healing, and behavioral changes, I have found a sense of calm assurance that... has not removed the struggles and reality of life...and yet allowed a peace and energy to progress.

My passion is in working with individuals and couples in need of resolving relational issues, whether it be in a coupleship, looking to become involved in a coupleship, relational issues with family members, relationships at work, or social relationships.
Addressing challenges in our personal life is not easy. While a common reaction to difficulties and challenges is to attempt to avoid them, it seldom solves the problem. Friends can help with some struggles in life, while other challenges need unbiased, emotional support from a professional. Compassion and practical feedback help clients effectively address these challenges, and Julie's therapy style has an eclectic approach to personalize and tailor the therapy to each individual's needs. As Julie works with individuals and couples, she helps them recognize and build on their strengths to attain growth and to enrich their lives.

I am trained through Level 2 in the Gottman Method and have served as a PC for NC Family Courts.
The past 20 years of partnering with a wide range of people through times of struggle has taught me we often underestimate our own resilience, or our resilience as a couple. It leads to worry, anger, depression, suspicion, guilt, frustration, loneliness, resentment, shame, panic... all the emotions we try so hard to avoid. Consider a teammate for this part of the journey to help you take greater control of your own growth. A partner who can listen intently, offer perspective, brainstorm with you, help you develop new insights and skills, and support you in making changes to create a life - or relationship - you love.

**Accepting New Clients** Life can be overwhelming, confusing, disappointing, and painful. Life can be very fast-paced, and it can be very difficult in knowing how to keep up. If you’re feeling depressed, or having difficulty with friendships/relationships/ family /job, therapy can help. Are the experiences earlier in your life (childhood and/or early adulthood) impacting you now? Is it difficult to make healthy choices? Do you have anger issues? Do you struggle to share emotions that are natural and more vulnerable? Therapy can aid a person in making healthy choices, and improve your daily decision-making.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
