Don’s training is to help clients trying to work through life adjustments like divorce , grief, parenting and attachment circumstances, where depression, anxiety, anger and distress are occurring.
Don’s passion to come along side others in the capacity of a professional counselor is an outgrowth of his life transformations occurring from his own counseling through his ilife experiences. Don is a “life veteran” who recovered from a divorce , raising two sons on his own as well as other personal life struggles requiring him to acknowledge first hand how the counseling process brings about effectual positive movement away from difficult circumstances. Don received his counseling degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he had the opportunity to incorporate Christian spirituality into his mental health practices.

I am dedicated to helping people cope with life's changes. Whether it's divorce , going to college, the death of a person in your life, a marriage, a recent diagnosis of serious illness, or moving, all of these changes, good and bad, come with the loss of the old way of life. It can be difficult at times to cope with the intense emotions that may accompany these changes. My goal is to work together with you to help you find your footing, and regain a passion and zest for life.

Though i have the experience and training to help many populations I do have significant experience with positive results working with people and families of divorce as well as behavioral issues.
I have worked with a very diverse population and like to start with what my clients identify as their needs. Though I'm active and make observations and give guidance, I will quickly make it known to you that I want your feedback even if it is different from mine. This includes my work with adolescents and children as i know they are often reluctant with therapy yet want to be heard and this is how i join with them. Please think of your goals before coming in because this way you can determine if you are satisfied with my services. I am happy at this time to also offer Telepsych therapy sessions as an option

For those of you that are on the other side of divorce , I can also help you get your mojo back, discover and resolve ingrained patterns that so that your new relationships are healthy and thriving.
Now seeing clients in both NC and SC. Do you and your partner feel like strangers? It's hard when you're fighting, there is silence, and your sex life reflects that disconnection. It can be heartbreaking that this might be the end of your marriage. Maybe it started after the kids were born or maybe you've just grown apart. The reason doesn't matter but you can't ignore the distance between you any longer. Like many, you may feel more like roommates than lovers, and you want so much more for your marriage. Through couples counseling, I can help you save your relationship before it breaks apart completely.

I see adults for individual therapy, Couples Counseling, Discernment Counseling, Divorce Consults, Collaborative Divorce , and Co-Parenting Therapy.
The past 20 years of partnering with a wide range of people through times of struggle has taught me we often underestimate our own resilience, or our resilience as a couple. It leads to worry, anger, depression, suspicion, guilt, frustration, loneliness, resentment, shame, panic... all the emotions we try so hard to avoid. Consider a teammate for this part of the journey to help you take greater control of your own growth. A partner who can listen intently, offer perspective, brainstorm with you, help you develop new insights and skills, and support you in making changes to create a life - or relationship - you love.

No judgement here. As a Christian Counselor, I help Christian women and girls age 10+ with anxiety, depression, anger management, low self-esteem, ADHD, and feelings of rejection, guilt, and shame and stress management. I also support women who are struggling with issues dealing infidelity and divorce . I believe self-care post divorce is so important. I help men and boys 13+ with anger management. For couples, I provide pre-marital counseling. My approach is non-judgmental, safe and caring which I believe are essential to the healing process of moving forward. Individuals DO NOT have to be Christian. Christian views are not forced on individuals.

When we look at those areas in our lives, many issues arise such as depression, anxiety, relationships, communication, anger, divorce and others.
Who do you go to when life hurts? What do you do when problems arise? Where do you go when the stigma of traditional counseling is not an option? I am here to assist you with online and traditional counseling. I counsel individuals, couples, and families. I have been in private practice since September, 1999. I believe that each of us have the ability to heal our hurts through forgiveness and the mending our broken hearts. Some of the issues that I work with are substance abuse, depression, forgiveness, anger, relationship issues, sexual assault, domestic violence, PTSD and career choices.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
