Being a child or teen in today’s world is tough, and so is parenting! Although the world is changing fast, the needs of children and teens remain the same as previous generations. Children and teens need to feel love, security, and value. When children, teens, and young adults are having difficulty managing emotions, regulating behavior, and lacking a strong sense of self, it is often necessary to seek support. Parenting support and training is an integral part of my practice. I have been providing individual and family therapy to school-age children to young adults in Raleigh since 2001.

Are you looking for help in navigating a season of life? Whether you are looking for help for yourself, your teen , or your relationship, it would be my honor to walk with you. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on fixing faulty beliefs which drive unhealthy thoughts and feelings. Situations cannot always be changed, but what we believe or interpret about situations can be. At times, it’s not that we experience false beliefs, but that we are in a season of suffering, and in that need to learn how to suffer well.

There are many inherent challenge that come along with being an adolescent and young adult. Whether is navigating changing friendships, starting college, moving away from home, dealing with the pain of a breakup, starting a job, or figuring out who you want to be in this world, your "teens" and twenties are both a beautiful and chaotic time of change, growth, and self discovery. I seek to support individuals as they face life's transitions and encourage them to press into these challenges in hopes that they become more confident and resilient. Life's challenges are inevitable, so I support clients in holding joy amidst their pain.

When I was a defiant and moody adolescent , my parents sought therapy for me. The therapy room was place in which I felt understood. I was able to learn great insight into how I think and understanding others' perspectives. It was through that experience that I was inspired to create an environment for others that was both validating and encouraging. I try to establish a therapeutic relationship that enables each person to make progress with their goals, whether it be their self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, managing challenging emotions, or getting through an especially challenging life event.

My passion is helping child and adolescent victims of abuse and neglect heal emotionally and break free of invisible scars that are holding them back from feeling empowered and leading their best life. I work with caregivers and family who are inevitably touched by these painful experiences to help them help their loved one and improve their own emotional wellbeing. I also provide a compassionate, non-judgmental safe place for adults with unresolved trauma, past or present, to collaboratively work through issues and learn to process thoughts in healthier more adaptive ways, pursue goals and thrive rather than just survive.

She specializes in working with adolescent and adult female clients.
I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. My life and career experiences have uniquely prepared me for working with those age groups. Prior to obtaining my Ph.D., I worked for twelve years as a high school teacher and athletics coach. This experience has provided me with unique insight for working with adolescents. Meanwhile, I have worked extensively as a therapist in college counseling centers and adult focused practices, providing me with a wealth of experience treating adults. In addition to providing therapy, I have worked at UNCG providing supervision to graduate students in the clinical psychology program.

Do you have a child or teen that is struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, negative influences, low self-esteem or other concern? Therapy is a great option that has proven success in helping those find direction, healing, new skills and strengthened relationships.
Teenagers and even children are more and more dealing with environmental pressure that results in them feeling overwhelmed, stressed and anxious and can often lead to depression among a host of concerns. Parents can be their child's biggest strength through these tough years and is why I am dedicated to strengthening the parent and child relationship to enable children and teens to be successful in dealing with these common issues.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence.
