My main purpose as a therapist is to help clients discover what they want and help them get there. My background in theater and improvisational work has informed my theoretical approach to remain open to the moment and allow clients the space to participate in their experiences without judgement. I use several modalities including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Experiential Role Playing, among others, to assist clients in examining how limiting beliefs about themselves and the world may be holding them back.

I aim to create a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship while my clients work toward wholeness where they feel wounded. Symptoms of anxiety or depression often usher us into difficult life change that can eventually lead toward improved emotional health. I work from an eclectic theoretical orientation using attachment theory, Internal Family Systems, Narrative-Focused Trauma Care, and faith if clients desire. I utilize Strengths-Based theory with teens, which is an evidence-based approach to suicide prevention. I specialize in teens and work well with high-performing women who struggle with anxiety.

Finding a nonjudgmental therapist who values your insight into your own life can be a challenge. I wish for my clients to know that I respect their expertise on their own lives and am honored to be allowed in during a time that may feel vulnerable and uncertain. I take a holistic approach, acknowledging that personal challenges are not often the result of one simple problem.

My approach is rooted in the belief that with insight, knowledge, support and effort you can be empowered to live the life you desire and manifest your goals, whether internal or external. I will work with you to develop a stronger, more accepting sense of self through mindfulness, challenging negative cognitions, and validation. I deem myself a counselor, rather than a therapist, one who provides counsel through education, support, guidance, and feedback, with a directive and accountable style. By providing "bumpers," we can work together to identify and dismantle the barriers to living out your intentions.

I'm really glad you're here. I work with folks located throughout the triangle, the piedmont, and WNC. My favorite work to do with clients is exploring parts of yourself that you don't like, parts that might need some extra attention or healing, and overwhelming body sensations (like anxiety, anger, or depression) that really seem to hold you back. I really enjoy working with cis women and queer folx, exploring anything from relationships to coming out, attachments styles, older or newer traumas, implementing positive self talk, substance use, and gender identity.

I help people struggling with alcohol use, chronic relapse, and treatment resistance create lasting change.
You don’t have to hit rock bottom to want change. If you’re drinking to cope with anxiety, stress, or burnout, there’s a better way. Together, we’ll use harm reduction counseling to help you rebuild your relationship with alcohol—whether that means drinking less or stopping completely. I help clients find practical tools to manage urges, reduce guilt, and decide if they want to stop altogether, or take a gradual approach

If your life feels like a shit show you can’t stop watching—welcome. You’re in the right place. Maybe you’re battling trauma, addiction, rage, grief, or you’re just so tired of pretending you’re okay. Therapy with me isn’t small talk and coloring books. It’s deep, honest, sometimes messy work that actually shifts things. You don’t need to be “fixed”—you need to be witnessed, held, and challenged. Let’s burn the rulebook and build something real.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
