I am an anxiety and women's issues therapist.
You didn't expect life to look this way. Are you paralyzed by anxiety? Overwhelmed with the state of the world and our country? Feeling disconnected from others? Feeling unseen and unheard? Are you struggling to meet the high expectations of yourself and the expectations of what the modern woman is? Have you found yourself thinking; these are supposed to be the happiest days of my life, why am I not happy? Am I a good Mom? Am I being too controlling? Everyone else seems to be able to do it all. Why can't I? Am I making the "right" decisions with my children? Life does not have to stay this way.

I'm grateful you're here. I commend you for taking the first step toward building a better relationship with yourself and deepening your self-awareness. Therapy is a wonderful gift to give to yourself. My ideal client is anyone at a crossroads in their life who is in need of a safe harbor. No struggle is too big or small, or layered or strange. I especially enjoy working with anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, trauma, life transitions, relational concerns, and the queer community. I am person-centered at my core and approach therapy from a feminist lens. I also like to implement aspects of mindfulness with my clients.

My "ideal" client is someone who has made the choice to start, restart, or continue their therapeutic journey. This is someone who is open to being vulnerable in the interest of personal growth. This client attends regular sessions as well as utilizes tools outside of our sessions to maximize growth potential. The "why" is not a requirement to start, but being open to learning more about yourself is. My sessions provide a space free from judgement where you can be your authentic self.

While at one point your energy, thoughtfulness and persistence served you and helped you to accomplish things, perhaps you've noticed these patterns and behaviors take on a life of their own. Now you might be more fearful, doubtful, and engaging in avoidance. What used to bring you joy is now being perceived as a chore or a threat. You want peace of mind and freedom to enjoy what's right in front of you without being consumed by all the what ifs and other worst case scenarios. You recognize that the anxiety that used to serve you is now being used against you and you're tired of it.

Everyone thinks you have it together. People would never guess how much you're struggling, or how your brain NEVER shuts off. You're replaying conversations, overthinking everything, carrying everyone else's emotional baggage, and wondering why you can't seem to relax. You're exhausted, but slowing down somehow feels harder than keeping busy. You learned how to survive long before you knew how to rest. If you're reading this and feel like this is you... you're in the right place.

If you're ready to make change in your life, you've come to the right place! If you want to do therapy online from the comfort of your home, we will be a great fit (just get ready for me to ask to meet any pets.) If you dislike sitting in an office and want to meet outdoors for therapy, I'm your person. My favorite therapy sessions are done in nature in the Boone, NC and surrounding areas - we can walk, hike, ski, or kayak during your session. I also have an office where we can meet downtown. It's pet-friendly, so bring your babies! I specialize in Trauma-integration, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, relationships, and goal-focus.

One of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. You don't have to be anxious or angry all the time. I want you to be free of emotional pain and deal with life on your terms. You can find purpose in how you show up in the world. I want to help you craft a new chapter in your unique story. I employ integrative, person-centered, evidence-based approaches that empower you and promote your mind-body healing. We may walk in my forest or sit on the couch, but wherever we share space, we are working together, one day closer to the mind-body healing I know you can find.

I have experience helping women's issues during treatment which include but are not limited to, self-esteem improvement and behavioral patterns.
My ideal client is willing to "do the work" outside of session, within their means or abilities, and is open to change to gain improvement in behaviors and thought processes. Someone who can't seem to pinpoint how to navigate toward self-improvement and has a willingness to discuss a plan for getting better. A person who has the ability to collaborate and fully participate in treatment. If a person is not sure of their goals, I can support a person in exploring ideal outcomes to determine goals for therapy.

I believe that everything in our life is interconnected and a shortage in one area affects other areas as well. Being in alignment simply means we feel that our life has meaning and value and that we feel equipped with tools to navigate life’s challenges. It does not mean perfection, but progress without adding extra stress to your life.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
