My ideal client is an adult who feels overwhelmed, stuck, or tired of carrying everything alone. They may be managing anxiety, depression, stress, or substance use concerns and want practical support—not judgment. Specializing in complex trauma and marriage therapy, I am an Emdria-Certified Approved Consultant, and Gottman-trained. I teach EMDR internationally with the EMDR Institute as a Facilitator. And just as Gottman Method is the only 100% research-based marriage therapy, EMDR is the top choice of the World Health Organization, DOD, and others. Integrating methods such as Ego State Therapy, Action Psychology, TSDP, somatic resourcing, and CBT enables me to treat the complex trauma spectrum. Childhood trauma usually doesn't look like PTSD, and may look like treatment-resistant bipolar II, anxiety, eating disorders, even chronic pain.

You’re someone carrying more than you show—maybe trauma, overwhelm, people-pleasing, or feeling disconnected from yourself. Are you experiencing life with a sense that you’ve been surviving instead of truly living? You want relief, clarity, and a way to feel whole again. You’re ready to understand your patterns, heal old wounds, move through relational conflict and feel more grounded in who you are. As you go through this journey, you are looking for a safe space where you can slow down, breathe, and finally move toward the life you’ve been wanting.

Feeling out of control of your emotions? Our ability to be intentional in shaping our relationships can be compromised by unproductive mind patterns limiting our ability to be deliberate in how we manage ourselves when emotions are running high. Free yourself from your past, become the author of your own story. As a marriage and family therapist I work systemically with individuals, couples, and families harnessing the power of our relationships to heal. Systemic therapy assumes that disfunction exists in our interactions with others, people are not "sick" or broken" and therapy optimizes our important relationships.

I recognize it can be hard to reach out for help as well as make the time and space for yourself during the everyday craziness of life. We often put everyone else ahead of our own needs and put ourselves last and our needs on hold. Time just seems to fly by and nothing changes. By the time we are looking for a therapist or reaching out for help, we are overwhelmed and need support now. You may feel exhausted and may not even know where to start to make things better.

Feeling seen, heard, and understood can be some of the most empowering feelings we experience in life. On the other hand, feeling lost, misunderstood, disconnected, and overwhelmed can be extremely isolating. Whether this is due to trauma, life transitions, identity, relationships, dysfunctional family dynamics, anxious/depressive thoughts, etc. I know how hard it is to feel alone. Therapy can be a great tool to know yourself fully, work through those isolating experiences and feelings, and ultimately live more authentically.

Empowering change comes from within and is supported by the community of healthy individuals that we choose to have around us. We live in a world that can often feel frenetic, disengaged and lacking empathy. Clients and I work together to bring about that inner change and outward connection, to connect back to what lights them up, discover barriers that keep us from connecting, and work to reignite that passionate self. Since 2008 I have worked with those that are navigating tough life transitions and are in a stage of sometimes painful but restorative growth.

One Christmas season it had rained a lot. I attempted to circle my yard with my car to slide out of my drive way, and I got stuck. The more I tried to get out the more stuck I became. Finally, I had to do what I was dreading and call a tow truck to get me out of my own yard! Well, sometimes in life, we get stuck in our own mud, and we have to call help to get us out.

As a potential client, know that your courage to face personal vulnerabilities and uncertainties is acknowledged from the start. To realize and understand the efforts you've made already affords us early opportunities to consider possibilities in therapy. Your desired outcome is the goal. The process of sharing, reflecting, and adjusting any internal and relational patterns is our therapy means to this end. The clinical approaches perhaps most reflective in therapy are cognitive-behavioral, inter-personal and family systems, and acceptance/commitment. Interventions are based on your child/family, couple, and individual needs.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
