Attachment-based Therapists in Orange County, NC
You might feel overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, or painful experiences that are hard to carry alone. Maybe you’ve spent years trying to meet expectations, explaining who you are, or feeling like you don’t quite belong. Many of the people I work with are navigating questions about identity, relationships, culture, or self-worth while making sense of trauma, family conflict, or religious harm. Often, they are searching for a space where they can be fully themselves without judgment, a place where they don’t have to shrink, hide parts of who they are, or translate their experiences just to be understood.

Art therapy offers a unique path to access and express dreamlike or diffuse mental images representing emotional memories that often are non-linear and therefore difficult to express verbally. The imagery then becomes the subject of contemplation and discussion with the art therapist and will add to the client's understanding of what motivates her/his behavior and emotions. In addition, art making is a soothing and meditative process and helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression while working through sometimes difficult issues.

Do you feel that there is a disconnect between who you are and who you present to the world? Perhaps your relationships with others, with substances, with your religion, beliefs, or culture are not what you want them to be. Maybe you're in the midst of a life transition and asking yourself hard questions about the world around you. Whatever the reason may be, my clients bravely come to therapy, seeking ways to live a more authentic life, and I join them as we find ways to do so. I believe that we all deserve to live a life that is true to who we are, and that therapy can help us to achieve that.

Talk therapy can be helpful, but sometimes it's just not enough. Maladaptive patterns of stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression lie in our bodies. You and I will untangle these problematic patterns to get to the root of your pain together. Our sessions will allow you to metaphorically dip your toe into the pain and then always come back to safety. In this way you are challenged to grow in a slow, safe manner.

I love to help clients identify and break harmful patterns of behavior and work towards a healthier, more sustainable, balance that improves their lives. My style is compassionate, yet direct and transparent. I see problematic behaviors as coping mechanisms for underlying stressors/emotional experiences that need processing. I have extensive experience working with clients with eating disorders and addictions. As a former HS teacher, I enjoy working with young adults. I believe that relationships heal. In every case, I consider clients' contexts, which have great impact on their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Mindfulness practice is built-in to my approach.
