Attachment-based Therapists in Orange County, NC
Infidelity? Porn addiction? Sex addiction? Love Addiction? Trauma? I’m a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) with specialized training so that you're not wasting your time and money. Not just talk, talk, talk that gets you nowhere. I used evidence-based treatments so that you're feeling better soon. If clients are open to it, I often give them handouts or homework to do during the week. I don't believe in forcing the client to do something that isn't working. But we DO aim to get to the root of the problem so that you experience lasting change.

I enjoy working with parents of all ages, children ages 3-18, and young adults. Talk therapy can be helpful, but sometimes it's just not enough. Maladaptive patterns of stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression lie in our bodies. You and I will untangle these problematic patterns to get to the root of your pain together. Our sessions will allow you to metaphorically dip your toe into the pain and then always come back to safety. In this way you are challenged to grow in a slow, safe manner.

I enjoy working with individuals who are seeking lasting healing change and transformation. You may be experiencing depression or anxiety that is signaling the need for a different way of approaching your life. You may have past trauma and need a safe space to work through and integrate this. Old patterns, wounding and trauma live in our bodies and show up in our relationships, feelings, thoughts, beliefs and body sensations. We will work together to heal and integrate these through an approach that is relational, embodied, spirit-oriented, and attentive to the interplay between identity and our larger systems.

Taking the first step for therapy should not be minimized. We will work together from start to finish, to uncover the best version of yourself. The foundation of my work is client-centered and trauma-focused, which concentrates on establishing trust and respect in order for change to occur. I have experience working with individuals who have endured trauma and as a result struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD, eating disorders, and other mental health concerns. I also have a passion for working with individuals from the LGBTQ community and struggle with the unfortunate anxieties of marginalization.

The House of Gray PLLC was created for the person who is often the strong one—the friend, family member, or supporter who shows up for others, even when feeling alone or unsure how to be vulnerable themselves. We understand how heavy that can feel, and you don’t have to carry it alone.
Our heart is in walking alongside individuals and communities as they heal from experiences that may have been passed down for generations. We strive to create a space that feels safe, supportive, and free of judgment—where you can show up just as you are.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
