Are you a high-achieving woman who looks like she has it all together...but inside, you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or never quite “enough”? You’ve built a successful life, yet you’re stuck in cycles of overthinking, comparison, and self-doubt. You find yourself caught in the comparison trap, scrolling on Instagram and wondering why you don’t feel as happy as you “should". You may find it hard to slow down, struggle to ask for help, and feel like no matter what you accomplish, it’s never enough. You’re the one everyone relies on—but you’re exhausted from holding it all together.

Throughout the course of our lives, from childhood to adulthood, we can experience a wide range of issues – such as relationships, family, work, or school – that can potentially interfere with our level of functioning, productivity, or ability to feel generally happy. Some people are able to master these issues through their development as a person, but there are times or situations in which these issues become major hurdles. Our professional practice provides a confidential and safe atmosphere where we are able to guide each client toward possible solutions to problems and cultivate good coping skills for life’s future challenges.

Hi NC, SC, & FL clients. I am Laura Wesson. Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling.

I believe people should have the space to be authentic and heard. No two people will feel the same way in any given experience. My goal is to work together to ensure understanding and positive changes. We build a space together that allows you to feel safe. We discuss current stressors and how they are impacting your goals. When working with couples and families, I create an environment where everyone has a voice and feels heard, while facilitating change and growth within the unit. We work at finding solutions and strengthening communication skills.

We are impacted by the experiences, good and bad, that we go through in life. Sometimes things totally out of our control have the biggest impact on the choices we make in life. Many times we do not realize this until our own lives seem out of control. Emotional recovery is needed to heal from the negative experiences that impacted our world view, our ability to trust others, and again the choices we make. Sometimes it is helpful to have someone walk with us on our journey of healing. That is the role of the therapist. At times, we all need a little guidance.

Feeling misunderstood or unloved by the people you need most can break you. The constant highs and lows, shame, and fear of abandonment leave you exhausted. Add anxiety, depression, or trauma, and it feels impossible to hold it all together. I help clients facing these struggles—especially those with Borderline Personality Disorder—heal painful patterns, repair relationships, and find peace within themselves and others. If this feels like it might be a good fit, I’d love for you to call—sometimes one conversation is all it takes to feel a lot less alone and a lot more hopeful.

Do you find it hard to connect with traditional therapy? Maybe you’ve tried before, but something felt off, or you just couldn’t find the right fit. I’ve been told that I’m the therapist for people who “hate therapists” or for those who feel like they’ve never truly been seen or understood in the therapy room. If you’re looking for a space where you can be real, be heard, and dive into meaningful work, you’ve come to the right place. I work with individuals who are looking for more than just talk therapy. I work with those who want to explore deeper questions, navigate life’s complexities, and rediscover what truly matters.

Sometimes life takes you in a direction you never planned. In those seasons, there is often both loss and possibility. A relationship ends. A career shifts. Anxiety grows. Grief lingers. Trauma reshapes how safe the world feels. You may appear steady on the outside but feel overwhelmed or disconnected within, wondering who you are now and how to move forward.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
