Blue Cross Therapists in Oak Ridge, NC
Hi NC, SC, & FL clients. I am Laura Wesson. Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling.

My ideal client is someone who has carried the weight of trauma, loss, or instability and is now at a point where they are ready to seek healing. They may present with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress that have begun to interfere with their ability to function in relationships, at work, or in parenting. Many of them have tried to cope on their own, but they find themselves repeating cycles of fear, disconnection, or self-doubt that prevent them from moving forward.
Their needs are both practical and emotional. They need a safe, nonjudgmental space that Evolution of Self will provide.

Overall, I believe that therapy is a place to learn and heal from current and past experiences. My primary goal as a counselor is to empower and provide skills to clients to help them flourish. I see children, adolescent, and adult populations, implementing an integrative approach, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. This means that I use many techniques and models, but I like to focus on current goals/solutions and altering unhelpful thinking patterns.

Most of my professional experience has been working with children and teenagers and providing support to their families. Some of the issues that I work best with are anxiety, depression, anger management, self-harm, and providing LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy. I work with clients to help them with developing healthy coping skills and strategies to navigate different challenges they experience. When clients first come to therapy, they typically want to be seen on a consistent basis and work to improve their abilities to handle life stressors and improve behavior at home and school.

You wake up and tell yourself today will be different. Maybe you’ll finally feel lighter, more focused, more “you.” But then the thoughts start crowding in before the coffee even brews—worries about work, the past, or that one conversation you keep replaying. You get through the day, mostly on autopilot, pretending it’s fine. Some days it is. Other days it isn’t. You can’t remember the last time you felt genuinely calm, like your brain wasn’t running a marathon without a finish line.

Hi Thanks for taking a look at my profile- Reach out if it seems we might be able to work together in a way that would be helpful to you...I'm working only via telehealth which reduces your commute time. My clients tend to be working on being awake and aware of and attuned to and stressed by the complexity of our culture today. I work with issues of alternative sexuality, gender dysphoria, relationships in all forms including relationships that are kink friendly and/or poly. I'm happy to work with people I come from an eclectic training background but use RLT and IFS more often than other modalities.

I believe that the therapy process is rooted in rapport, transparency, and hard work between the therapist and client. My approach is direct, honest, and straightforward. I strive to create a safe, comfortable, and judgment free space for clients to unload and discuss their most intimate life concerns. I enjoy working with other professionals (teachers, healthcare workers) experiencing burnout; who are wanting to learn skills in order to create work/life balance, manage stress levels, and cultivate happy/healthy relationships. This might involve learning to say "no" with boundary implementation and assertive communication.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.
How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.
What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.
Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.
What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.
What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.
Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.
Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.
Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
