Hi NC, SC, & FL clients. I am Laura Wesson. Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling.

I integrate CBT, ACT, and SFBT to help you overcome perfectionism, build psychological flexibility, regulate emotions, reduce stress, identify strengths, and create practical, values-based solutions.
I believe therapy works best when it is a collaborative, down-to-earth partnership where you feel fully heard and respected. I enjoy working with high-achieving and over-functioning women who are navigating burnout, anxiety, and the pressure to manage everything perfectly. Our sessions will focus on understanding the root of these patterns and developing practical, sustainable tools to help you set healthier boundaries and reduce stress. My goal is to provide a steady, encouraging space where you can safely step back from performance and focus on your own well-being.

Are you a high-achieving woman who looks like she has it all together...but inside, you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or never quite “enough”? You’ve built a successful life, yet you’re stuck in cycles of overthinking, comparison, and self-doubt. You find yourself caught in the comparison trap, scrolling on Instagram and wondering why you don’t feel as happy as you “should". You may find it hard to slow down, struggle to ask for help, and feel like no matter what you accomplish, it’s never enough. You’re the one everyone relies on—but you’re exhausted from holding it all together.

My work also draws on existential therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Adlerian psychology, and Buddhist Psychology, guiding you to explore life's biggest questions: Who am I?
Do you find it hard to connect with traditional therapy? Maybe you’ve tried before, but something felt off, or you just couldn’t find the right fit. I’ve been told that I’m the therapist for people who “hate therapists” or for those who feel like they’ve never truly been seen or understood in the therapy room. If you’re looking for a space where you can be real, be heard, and dive into meaningful work, you’ve come to the right place. I work with individuals who are looking for more than just talk therapy. I work with those who want to explore deeper questions, navigate life’s complexities, and rediscover what truly matters.

I integrate ACT, IFS (IFSI L1), EMDR (EMDRIA), somatic experiencing, and relational models — blending strong clinical training with a deeply human connection.
The way I practice is really grounded in care - real, human care. I’m a clinical psychologist, but more than that, I’m someone who shows up fully. I take this work seriously, and personally. I work with people who are doing well in many ways, or who’ve already done a lot of work and gained insight, but still feel stuck - or burned out - or like something’s off and they can’t quite put their finger on it. Sometimes it’s been building for years, and sometimes something recent just knocks the wind out of you - loss, affairs, medical stress, relationship conflicts, or life suddenly not making sense the way it used to.

I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and a strengths-based and mindfulness approach to help clients connect with what matters most to them.
My therapy is grounded in the belief that healing happens in relationship and community, when we feel seen, heard, and accepted for who we are. I believe therapy can be a space where people reconnect with their voice, their values, and their capacity for change. I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ folx, and navigating identity, belonging, and self-worth, and my goal in the office is for folx to feel safe and accepted, with warmth, collaboration, and social justice.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
