My ideal client feels overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected due to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, or life transitions. They may battle self-doubt, emotional distress, or a sense of unfulfilled potential. They need a safe, supportive space to explore their thoughts, build self-awareness, and develop healthier coping strategies. Their goal is to gain clarity, confidence, and lasting change. They want to feel in control, improve relationships, and find fulfillment. Ultimately, they seek a therapist who listens without judgment and helps them uncover their inner strengths.

Life transitions are hard. Perhaps your teen is going through something that you feel they need someone unbiased to talk to about it. Maybe you're a college student figuring out what to do or where to go. Maybe you've lost someone, or maybe you're just someone who needs an ear to listen. I work with people of various faiths, backgrounds, sexualities, and identities as I feel it's important for all of us to help each other. I work often with people experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief. I find grief is best worked through with someone who understands it and will listen.

Are you having a tough time? You are not alone. Many people are struggling right now. They are experiencing anxiety and depression. They are feeling overwhelmed, stuck and hopeless. They are having difficulty at home, school or work. They are coping with grief and loss. They are feeling unwell in their body with one or more health related issues. They can't sleep. They are unhappy in their relationships. They don't have a close friend. They are feeling isolated and disconnected. They come seeking therapy to help address a specific symptom, problem or issue. Often, they are simply seeking to feel less alone.

Many individuals are feeling overwhelmed by the weight of their past. Some are carrying the weight of trauma, grief, complicated family dynamics, or a difficult breakup. They want clarity and a way to move forward without feeling defined by the pain they’ve carried. Others are navigating major life transitions—changes in work, culture, family, or place—and feel unmoored as they try to make sense of what comes next. Often, they long for a space where they can be fully understood, especially by someone who recognizes the nuances of ethnic and Christian cultures, immigrant experiences, and the tension between old and new identities.

My post-graduate training includes EMDR, Gottman Level 1, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (externship and core skills), and Prepare-Enrich Premarital Assessment.
I know it takes great courage to reach out and begin this journey. In my office you will find a safe place to explore your hurts and struggles and find healing and hope. I believe as humans we are holistic in nature, and wellness includes the body, mind, soul and spirit. I am specifically trained to offer Christian counseling, but I also utilize EMDR as a primary mode of helping clients deal with past and present traumas. These traumas can manifest in anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relational issues, PTSD, or physical sickness/pain. If so desired, we can dive deep into holistic approaches to dealing with your symptoms.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
