My clients often overcome trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and life changes with the support of emotionally focused therapy.
We all have had those moments of frantic responses to people in hopes that we don't have to sit in something alone. I strive to be able to sit with you and make sense of the big feelings, past trauma, or futuristic scares that come up in unexpected moments. I've spent many years working with individuals to make them feel more empowered so daily life feels more balanced. I have extensive training and experience to treat the whole person with a mindful approach. The state of the world can just add to anxiety or focusing troubles or depression symptoms which can make daily life harder. There is support out there for you!

My life experiences and personal testimony is evidence of God's ability to restore and redeem. My journey in becoming a counselor has given me an understanding for the need to see others through God's perspective, a holistic view in providing care and compassion, while ministering to individuals using various resources and methods. No one person or situation is alike. The uniqueness to your story requires personal insight while allowing the Holy Spirit to heal the inner person. I use biblically based teaching intertwined with psychological tools, to minister to the entire person: mind, body, spirit, soul.

I aim to establish a safe and confidential environment where my clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment. Therapy is a collaborative process between my clients and me, in which we work together to better understand their challenges, identify any patterns that may be holding them back, and develop healthier coping strategies to help them move forward. It is not about giving advice or "fixing" individuals; rather, it focuses on helping them gain insight, clarity, and the tools necessary to navigate life more effectively.

Throughout my life I have become so aware of the importance of having someone who will listen, someone who will offer compassion without judgment. Throughout my career I have strived to place that understanding in focus as I worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and the lifelong pains of trauma.

My ideal client is ready to develop self-awareness, recognize and understand what motivates their choices and impedes their ability to be their best self. I often work with individuals who have untreated trauma and don't quite understand how it impacts them but they know it does. I work with teens who may not be coming to counseling entirely voluntarily but they know they need it. I also work with young adults who are trying to navigate the next steps of development from adolescence into young adulthood. I also work with adults who are trying to master their life experiences and be the best parent and/or partner they can be.

I believe that you bring wisdom to the places of disorientation in your life. As a spiritually-integrated psychotherapist, my role is to help you nurture the conditions where you can reconnect with this wisdom. The primary condition for this reconnection is an authentic relationship with another person. At its best, therapy can help deepen self-awareness, awaken self-compassion, and broaden your capacity for meaningful relationships. My practice resonates for contemplative persons seeking an active partner in the work of reconnection and re-creation.

Everyone has times in their life that they need to talk to someone. Throughout my career, I have worked with a broad range of people-children, individuals, and couples. I understand what it is like to be in search of answers. I recognize that anxiety and stress impact families as well as individuals. My life experiences have taught me to look at each client as an individual with their own needs and strengths. I believe that therapy can help us find specific solutions to our problems- whether those struggles are internal, external, personal, or relationally oriented.

Navigating challenges like dating struggles, boundary issues, relationship trauma, sexual trauma, codependency, childhood wounds, and ongoing relationship conflicts can often leave us feeling disconnected, making it hard to build fulfilling connections with ourselves and others. Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, finding it hard to be present in the moment. My goal is to provide a supportive, trauma-informed space where you can heal, reclaim your sense of self, and develop the healthy, authentic relationships you deserve with both yourself and those around you.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
