Picking the right therapist can seem like a daunting task because there certainly isn’t a "one size fits all" option, but I'm very proud of you for taking the first step! Working with adolescents and young adults is my specialty, but I welcome clients of all ages to come visit. I enjoy speaking with people about their interests, concerns, and guiding them through challenging situations. I encourage clients of all backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientation, etc. to seek my office as a safe space to be themselves and feel heard.

After trauma, we reach for whatever coping skill is closest in order to survive. We may turn to substances, self-harm, intellectualizing, perfectionism, etc. This helps us soothe, distract, and numb from feelings of shame, guilt, anger and fear. Still, our unprocessed emotions can overwhelm–morphing into anxiety, depression, rage, dissociation, or hyper-vigilance. However, this only represents a part of us and our experiences. We contain creativity, empathy, resilience, & intuition. Through our strengths, we increase our tolerance, release survival skills that no longer serve us, and return to our most liberated and aligned self.

Have you tried talk therapy with little to no success? As a certified EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapist, I can help. EMDR is a type of brain-based therapy that can help reprocess and desensitize traumatic or adverse experiences so that you can have more fulfilling relationships and less severe trauma reactions. I will walk you through this type of therapy- no need to worry about knowing "what to do" or that it will be too serious. We'll do the hard work plus have fun doing it.

Andrews Counseling & Consulting, PLLC was founded in 2016 by Travis & Anthony Andrews. These two brothers were raised in the small town of East Arcadia which is located outside of Wilmington, NC. In their community, the idea of speaking to a therapist was highly unpopular thus causing many of the mental health challenges faced by the community to go unaddressed. They both witnessed how damaging the negative stigma of mental health treatment was to their community and vowed as adults to advocate for mental health awareness, especially in the African American community!

The hardest part of healing is often taking the first step- and here you are. Choosing the "right fit" therapist is about matching your needs to the skills & experience of someone who can partner with you on your journey to health and happiness. I am a former teacher who became a therapist to help teens who struggle with anxiety, depression and other challenges- often without support. My door is open to adolescents and adults who want to feel better about themselves and their lives by building self-awareness, self-acceptance, and a toolbox of skills for working through tough times and improving their relationships.
