I utilize a mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, mindfulness techniques, and art therapy.
I am a passionate and welcoming clinician who loves interacting with clients of all ages and walks of life. I believe we are all human and allowed to grow, explore, and make mistakes as we live our lives. I have a kind and non-judgmental style and am not afraid to crack a joke if the situation calls for it. I have 4 years of experience in the mental health field through my education at UNC Wilmington. I have enjoyed working at both local non-profits as well as private therapy offices and feel comfortable in a variety of settings.

For younger children child centered play therapy while as age transition to direct play or more art therapy and expressive arts.
Life stories are all unique and creative. These stories are a chapter (individuals) of a book (family) so I work with preteen - adults. Each reflects why our role here is so important but with this story comes challenges which create emotions; emotions that can hurt yet make us feel alive. My hope is travel back through your story whether young or older with you. My playroom is a place where a child 3+ can use play to work through everything from daily living to focus/attention issues to neurodiversity. Based on the age of the person it can impact how we journey through their story and what modality it needs to express itself.

Welcome to a safe space, where you are the most important person. I believe that therapy should be a chance for you to discover more about yourself and how to live your best life. I have had the pleasure of working with all ages in many different levels of treatment. I have come to believe that early intervention is the most valuable approach to achieving a balance in one's mental health. I have spent the last several years serving in the emergency rooms of an adult hospital and a children's hospital. Many times I found myself wishing they would have come for help much earlier.

I am presently welcoming new clients. I am privileged to be in a profession where I am a witness to the strength people have in their most difficult times. The buildup of stress, anxiety, disconnection, traumatic events, or major life transitions can leave you feeling helpless, hopeless, and looking for relief in ways that feel confusing and unauthentic. Being able to reflect and come to the conclusion that there has to be a different way to cope is the first step toward enacting change. In therapy, my clients work to heal from past hurts, address current stressors, and plan for a vibrant future.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
