I specialize in women and children, domestic violence, family trauma, grief and attachment and adoption issues.
Everyone has an individual story with experiences that make them unique. There is not one answer that fits all. Many times in life we get stuck and are not sure where to turn. We misplace hope, and life gets out of focus. In these times we need support and encouragement to help us realign our lives and discover what we desperately need to find fulfillment and success. I believe that the counseling journey is one in where both the counselor and the client work together to discover a better sense of self in relationship with others, while growing a more intimate connection with God. Hope is found in true healing and wholeness.

Working in the field of clinical social work for many years, I help clients with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief and loss .
I appreciate your willingness to put yourself first by looking for a new therapist. In working with me, you will find a safe space where differences are honored and valued. It is okay to feel as though you don't have it all together, and that not every aspect of your life is not figured out. It takes strength and courage to ask for support and sometimes the hardest thing to do is to take the first step. As a Black Woman, I recognize this challenge and the strength it takes to ask for help, which is why I choose to do this work.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, addiction, grief and loss , living with chronic medical conditions, self-esteem issues, and relationship and career issues, among others.
My idea as a psychotherapist is to provide safe, comfortable & judgment-free environment for clients to work through issues. My role as a psychotherapist is to respect the goals that my clients come in with, and support the process of working toward these goals. I believe Psychotherapy can enhance one's self-awareness and the ability to recognize in one's own self-defeating and self-sabotaging patterns, and to change these patterns.

I love using the power of our personal narrative to help folks work through identity, grief , trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and more.
You don’t have to feel alone. Seeking counseling can feel intimidating and just reaching out is a huge step toward overcoming whatever it is you're struggling with. Whether you feel too down to get out of bed in the morning, feel like you’re having to carry a heavy burden by yourself, or would just like an hour for yourself with no distractions, I look forward to working with you.

Sometimes we choose change and then other times it chooses us. Life can feel like a never ending cycle of storm after storm and despite your best efforts, you cannot stop it. You do not have to grapple with this alone. Therapy is a scary thought, I know, but it is one that can be the beginning of a new beginning for you. I strive to create a safe place for individuals to be able to tell their story and work with them to navigate different storms they may be facing.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
