At Sanctuary Counseling Group, we believe in creating therapeutic relationships with our clients that promote the healing of heart, mind, and soul. What is most important to me is that those who come to me for treatment can feel safe, build trust to be who they are, and can focus on making themselves, their relationships, their marriage and family life better. It is always important to me to simply meet and accept people where they are and to partner with them on a journey to where they hope to be. Those who come for treatment deserve to feel understood, respected, and cared for along the way.

It has been an honor to work side by side with and guide clients through challenges that seem impossible to overcome, including depression, anxiety, grief, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, substance use and unhealthy family dynamics.
Life can often be difficult causing individuals to feel lonely and overwhelmed. Many of my clients begin therapy because they are struggling with an emotional void and they are wondering how to live their best life. My therapeutic style is warm, non-judgmental, strength based and solution focused. The strong therapeutic relationship I work to cultivate is often the catalyst for my clients to become more self aware, insightful and in control of their life.

I specialize in women and children, domestic violence, family trauma, grief and attachment and adoption issues.
Everyone has an individual story with experiences that make them unique. There is not one answer that fits all. Many times in life we get stuck and are not sure where to turn. We misplace hope, and life gets out of focus. In these times we need support and encouragement to help us realign our lives and discover what we desperately need to find fulfillment and success. I believe that the counseling journey is one in where both the counselor and the client work together to discover a better sense of self in relationship with others, while growing a more intimate connection with God. Hope is found in true healing and wholeness.

As a Licensed Ma Family Therapist Associate, I will help you navigate these problems in a systemic way that will allow you to see the bigger picture.
It is very hard to keep it together some days. You may feel you are just trying to stay afloat and make it from one day to the next. Have you ever smiled just to keep yourself from crying? Have you ever found yourself diving into work, school, or other activities to keep yourself busy - to avoid how you are really feeling? If any of the above are happening for you, you are in the right place. This is where I come in.My goal is to help you process these emotions and in more ways that can be applied to all areas of your life beyond the therapy room. Most of the time, what you are dealing with is more than what is right in front of you.

Therapy is a place where you are free to be yourself and feel empowered to make changes in your life to improve your overall wellbeing. I have been in the mental health field for several years and specialize in working with those struggling with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. I also work to help resolve family conflict (communication strategies and boundary setting skills). I have a direct approach to therapy and use humor when appropriate to help lighten the conversation. I mainly use CBT through our sessions as I've found it offers a large variety of skills that are easy to implement in your daily life.

I look forward to working with you and your family as a guide on your journey to emotional wellness.
Though we may not realize during times of hardship and adversity, we all possess the power to endure and overcome. Sometimes it takes certain conversations to identify and amplify the assets or skills required to be placed back in control. Whether you're going through major life changes, experiencing feelings of hopelessness or just feel overwhelmed, you have it within you to conquer your issues.

I am accepting new clients! I became a therapist so I could be the person I wish I had during tough times. Someone that could tell me that my future will be better than today, and that I have the power to make that so. You also have that power! Throughout life many of us may struggle with self-doubt, social anxiety, depression, low-self esteem, family conflict, relationship challenges and many others. It can be hard to know how to cope with uncertain or difficult situations and with reaching your full potential, but I am here to help you or a child/adolescent in your family .

We all need PEACE. Peace within our environment, with our significant others, within our families, and within ourselves. What if I told you that peace begins with adversity, pain, boundaries, and tears...Doesn't sound fun does it? However, at the other end of all of that is an entire garden of peace that you will learn to keep healthy and thriving. We want to help you find this place. This place lives deep inside of you, suffocating under trauma, depression, anxiety, and distressing thoughts. Let's take this step together! All it takes is one phone call. Our Peace Matters!

Sometimes we choose change and then other times it chooses us. Life can feel like a never ending cycle of storm after storm and despite your best efforts, you cannot stop it. You do not have to grapple with this alone. Therapy is a scary thought, I know, but it is one that can be the beginning of a new beginning for you. I strive to create a safe place for individuals to be able to tell their story and work with them to navigate different storms they may be facing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
