Alcohol Use Therapists in Mint Hill, NC
Trauma has haunted you for years. It’s left you with nightmares and flashbacks. It’s caused you to distrust others and push them away. It’s made you feel broken and hopeless. You’ve tried everything you can think of to shed the weight of the past. You’ve read the books, tried the life hacks… you may have even talked to a therapist. But now, you’re out of options. Nothing has helped you transition from being a survivor to someone who’s truly alive. And you’re all talked out. No matter how many times you tell your story, nothing changes. The search for relief is exhausting. This might be your last shot at trying to get help.

Many of our clients look good on the outside, yet feel mildly miserable on the inside. Pain is motivating and when clients are hurting, they call to schedule an appointment. It takes more than intellect to change behavior. Most of our clients are intelligent and know what they "should" do, yet struggle to take action. Our team works with people (and/or partners) who struggle with substances and behavioral medicators such as alcohol, porn, perfection and codependency. We treat individuals, couples and families that need help with addiction, mental illness, infidelity or simply feeling stuck. It is a relief to not have to do it alone.

I'm really glad you're here. I work with folks located throughout the triangle, the piedmont, and WNC. My favorite work to do with clients is exploring parts of yourself that you don't like, parts that might need some extra attention or healing, and overwhelming body sensations (like anxiety, anger, or depression) that really seem to hold you back. I really enjoy working with cis women and queer folx, exploring anything from relationships to coming out, attachments styles, older or newer traumas, implementing positive self talk, substance use, and gender identity.

I have worked with individuals of all ages—children, teens, and adults—helping them navigate a variety of life challenges. My primary goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where clients feel truly heard, valued, and understood.
While I am known for my nurturing and empathetic approach, I also take a direct approach to therapy when necessary. This is not a form of confrontation, but rather a therapeutic and motivational technique aimed at inspiring real change.
I am passionate about making mental health care accessible to all, and I work hard to remove barriers and provide the necessary support that my clients need.

My approach is rooted in the belief that with insight, knowledge, support and effort you can be empowered to live the life you desire and manifest your goals, whether internal or external. I will work with you to develop a stronger, more accepting sense of self through mindfulness, challenging negative cognitions, and validation. I deem myself a counselor, rather than a therapist, one who provides counsel through education, support, guidance, and feedback, with a directive and accountable style. By providing "bumpers," we can work together to identify and dismantle the barriers to living out your intentions.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
