Life in general, can be challenging. I believe in the healing power of telling your story in a judgement-free environment where you feel safe. Research consistently shows it is the quality of the therapeutic
relationship
, more than any other factor including the method of therapy, predicting the clients’ ability to use therapy to help themselves and make positive life changes. Therapy does not always solve the problems brought to it, but the best chance for success is when there is a strong therapeutic
relationship
. To me, the critical foundation of our counseling
relationship
is a partnership based on mutual respect and honesty.

I am a
couples
and adults’ specialist. My focus is on those struggling with concerns related to relationships, intimacy issues, pre marital concerns, anxiety, poor communication skills, depression, low self-esteem, co-parenting, and life transitions. I thrive in
couples
work but also enjoy working with young adults (18+). In this stage of life there is a need for balancing newfound independence, friendships, romantic relationships, identity, work, job/school stress. Together we can work towards exploring interests, and working through past trauma, to promote a healthier future.

I have worked with both adults,
couples
and teens and have a vast comprehension of mental health diagnoses and utilize CBT and DBT therapies to assist in developing coping strategies.
Throughout my career (so far) I have witnessed many individuals struggle and wrestle with their mental health and their faith. There is a stigma that rests within the church and mental health that is still present today so many Christians are faced with masking their mental health. I am here to say that this should not be. You can struggle with mental health concerns and remain a believer and child of God. I am here to meet you where you are at and work through your symptoms, one step at a time. I also have found that people forego their mental health due to financial strains. You don't have to do that with me. Give me a call.

I work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, a wide range of
relationship
issues (including marital, pre-marital, divorce and singleness), chronic illness, grief and also offer career assessment and counseling. I combine a practical, problem solving approach with a focus on the client's emotional and family history to facilitate greater insight for the client as we collaborate to bring balance and wholeness to that client's life. In my many years of practice, I have been on staff at a university counseling center, a large private practice and currently am with a ministry-based counseling center.

I have been in your shoes and know the power of the therapeutic
relationship
, for it has helped me navigate life's challenges.
You feel overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed. Life has piled on too many challenges lately and you feel stuck, unsure how to move forward. It's starting to affect your work, your home life, and your relationships, You just don't feel like yourself anymore and have thought about getting help. I am so glad you are taking this step to feel better. The thought of talking to a counselor might make you feel uncomfortable, but I can tell you that my clients often tell me after the first session how much better they feel just being able to talk about it. It's like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders.

I utilize evidence-based approaches addressing health promotion,
relationship
distress & trauma-related conditions.
Stress is inevitable, it's how we respond to it that matters. While stress can be a catalyst for spiritual, physical, and emotional growth, it impacts our well-being. During stressful times, it's important to recognize emotional and physical changes. Often, we neglect our internal experiences because of the fear of pain. When we avoid the pain, we essentially shut ourselves off from growth. My goal is to support you through challenging times, allowing you to open fully to the present moment by incorporating compassion-oriented & mindfulness-based strategies to withstand the suffering and lean into a growth mindset.

I enjoy working with teens, adults and
couples
who might be experiencing conflict, grief, depression or anxiety for circumstances beyond their control. No matter what difficulty or darkness lies before us, we can always find beauty in the mess and design in the chaos. I love helping others discover strengths and find hope. I have experience as a high school counselor, I'm a former pastor's wife, and my first job out of college was in campus ministry. Whether life is overwhelming, your marriage is struggling, or your teenager feels anxious/depressed, I firmly believe that there can still be fruit in your life.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
