My areas of interest include working with people dealing with
anxiety
, depression, stress, and relational issues.
Most of my life has been devoted to professional counseling. I bring passion and dedication to my clients. I work with both adults and adolescents. I experience my greatest joy as they achieve their goals and experience healing.I use an integrative approach to therapy inspired by a variety of evidence based practices, including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution focused therapy, and mindfulness. I've received advanced training in CBT, having successfully completed a cognitive behavioral therapy certificate course led by Dr. John Ludgate, who trained under Dr. Aron Beck, founder of cognitive therapy.

I have mainly worked with youth, LGBTQ+, and
anxiety
clients in my experience thus far.
I have a passion for working with clients from many diverse backgrounds. I grew up in a small town where mental health awareness was not always present and children, like myself, who were going through their own unique and individual challenges did not always have support or an outlet for expressing their emotions. I aim to work with clients who are searching for this same type of support environment and positive outcomes through making plans for their growth. This is in connection with using research-based mental/emotional health strategies to achieve goals and create authentic and personal changes in their lives.

These are tough times for people. They've been through a lot in these last several years. Many of the clients I see are struggling to manage
anxiety
and depression. They are often feeling isolated, overwhelmed, stuck and hopeless. They are often reporting unsatisfying relationships, struggling through school or unfulfilling work situations. They are often struggling to cope with grief and loss. They are often reporting feeling unwell or unhealthy and battling one or more health concerns or conditions. They are typically seeking therapy to help them get a handle on one or more of these issues, to get unstuck and to just feel better.

I enjoy working with teens, adults and couples who might be experiencing conflict, grief, depression or
anxiety
for circumstances beyond their control. No matter what difficulty or darkness lies before us, we can always find beauty in the mess and design in the chaos. I love helping others discover strengths and find hope. I have experience as a high school counselor, I'm a former pastor's wife, and my first job out of college was in campus ministry. Whether life is overwhelming, your marriage is struggling, or your teenager feels anxious/depressed, I firmly believe that there can still be fruit in your life.

anxiety
treatment professional.
The prospect of starting counseling can be scary. The worries of what other people may think, the stigma of counseling, and the thought of "am I weak'. I have been in this field for over 20 years, in a variety of setting and I heard from many who shared their hesitation for reaching out. It takes courage to ask for help! I am here to guide you through counseling. I offer education, support, and evidence-based treatments to 'normalize' how you may feel because at moments you may feel alone. Through education on how the brain is functioning, CBT, Mindfulness, and EMDR, we work together to accomplish the goals that you set for yourself

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
