I am trained to assist in building attachment within the family, to support women with mental health challenges during the pregnancy/ postpartum periods, and to support families through fertility challenges.
Family can be a source of joy and strength but can also be chaotic and overwhelming at times. I know that life transitions and big events can be challenging for individuals and that sometimes having an outside resource to talk to can be helpful. If you are struggling to start a family, dealing with pregnancy/ postpartum related mental health concerns, pursuing kinship care/foster care/adoption, or working to overcome a traumatic experience, I would love to connect and see if I can assist you in reaching your goals.

Are you feeling stuck repeating the same cycle over and over again? Are your usual ways of handling stress not working anymore? Are you struggling in your relationship with your partner, family, or friends? Maybe you know something needs to change but you are feeling powerless to make that change. At some point we all encounter difficulties in our life and feel unsure of our next steps. This is common but can feel lonely and isolating.

There are times when life can really throw us some nasty curveballs. It's hard some days to even put one foot in front of another. Our joy can quickly vanish and be replaced by fear and sadness. I know that struggle. I was diagnosed with a significant health issue three years ago which led to horrible depression and anxiety . Now, I truly have a better understanding of where my clients are coming from and just how heavy depression and anxiety can be to carry. I also know it's possible to get your joy and peace of mind back. Whatever your struggles are, they can improve and I would be honored to help guide your path.

A client once told me, “Finding the right therapist is like finding the right boyfriend,” and while therapy isn’t intended to be a long-term commitment, there are some similarities, including the need for trust, safety and compatibility. Clients often share with me things that they don’t tell anyone else, and it is important to find the right fit – someone you trust who has the skills to help you work through your specific struggles. I have been working in the field for over 20 years, and see adults (ages 18+) in individual counseling.

As a specialist in perimenopause & menopause, I educate women on hormone replacement therapy, debunking myths & explaining its benefits for cognition, cardiac, neurological, and physical health. Women are often mistakenly prescribed SSRIs & birth control to address menopausal symptoms like anxiety, depression, hot flashes & insomnia, when restoring their natural hormones could provide more effective relief. I provide hormonal treatment options, discuss the pros and cons of hormones, and most of all, provide hope for a vibrant, passion filled life. Yes, there is hope and I'm going to give it to you!

I believe that individuals hold the key to solving life’s issues but sometimes need the assistance of others to help pull out those strengths and provide support along the way; I have a passion for supporting clients on this journey of self-awareness and growth. I firmly believe that we do not have to face life alone and that seeking help is a sign of strength, showing one’s desire to make a change. Not only is this a strength but it also supports the movement towards breaking down the stigma that exists around seeing a counselor. As a therapeutic presence can be the most beneficial healing tool, I strive to be just that for clients

If you’re here, congrats. Chances are you realize something needs to change. Often times people come to therapy after they’ve already exhausted every resource and option they know. It’s a huge step to ask for help and an even bigger step to show up and take it.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
