With 20 years experience, I have expertise working with clients suffering from anxieties, depression, PTSD, codependency, and adjustment difficulties into life’s transitions and balancing multiple life roles.
There are times in our life when we realize that we can't keep doing it alone and we need to reach out for help. Sometimes people we love hurt us. Intentionally, or unintentionally, we hurt them. We let each other down. Our children who are meant to be our greatest joy sometimes are a source of unimagined worry or pain. At times it feels that our life has not turned out how we believed it should have. This realization can feel lonely, be confusing and cause us tremendous pain. Having a safe person and a healthy, trusting relationship with an experienced therapist can help.

I believe therapists are only wounded survivors with education and training, who seek to help their fellow person face life's difficulties. Just like you, I have faced hardship and continue to work every day towards a better self. I aim to provide my clients with an experience that puts them in a position to succeed. My space is a judgment-free zone, with work taken at your own pace. I don’t have the magic solution to solve your problems, but I am well-equipped to help you find those answers within yourself. I encourage you to take a leap of faith for yourself.

Serving TN, NC, and GA. You've been in a cycle of toxic relationships that make you feel crazy and not good enough. You wonder, "am I the narcissist?" Maybe you've tried to set boundaries with a parent, but still feel misunderstood, criticized, or invalidated. You believe your childhood was difficult but then rationalize that it "wasn't that bad." You won't call it trauma or abuse but then what was it?

I gently walk alongside clients through the grief process.

I work with domestic violence and codependency, exploring the deep wounds that have led to unhealthy choices and toxic relationships.
Everyone has an individual story with experiences that make them unique. There is not one answer that fits all. Many times in life we get stuck and are not sure where to turn. We misplace hope, and life gets out of focus. In these times we need support and encouragement to help us realign our lives and discover what we desperately need to find fulfillment and success. I believe that the counseling journey is one in where both the counselor and the client work together to discover a better sense of self in relationship with others, while growing a more intimate connection with God. Hope is found in true healing and wholeness.

My clients experience relief from their anxiety, trauma, painful or unfulfilling relationships, shame, addiction, compulsive sexual behavior, grief, and codependency.
I utilize trauma-focused approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), experiential, and somatic therapies. These allow us to uncover the why behind the struggle and more importantly, move to healing your struggles. I facilitate active, direct work after establishing trust and safety so that you do not feel stuck for months.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
