Life’s trials have shaped my passion for helping others. Orphaned by 13 after losing my mother to HIV and my stepfather to murder, my faith in Christ guided me through these hardships. For 25 years, I've studied relationships, from a spiritual lens, and as a Christian marriage counselor, I focus on helping couples improve communication, from a Gospel-centered focus. Using evidence-based research and faith-based principles, I address mental health issues and imperfections. I empower individuals and couples to restore and enrich their relationships, navigate challenges, and achieve their God-given potential.

In addition to my Christian faith, I have been heavily influenced by Viktor Frankl’s " Man’s Search for Meaning," Irvin Yalom’s "The Gift of Therapy," and Marcus Aurelius’ "Meditations.
One of the focuses of my career is to find the points of overlap between the Christian faith and sound counseling practices. This integrated perspective informs all of my professional endeavors. As your counselor, I will use a mind-body-spirit approach to tailor treatment to your individual needs. In each session, my goal is to help you discover and develop new insights and skills to navigate through the often-turbulent waters of life. I aim to help you get results and find solutions, so the amount of time that you may need or want to see me will vary depending on your circumstances.

Wellness and empowerment are two (of many) words I root my work with clients, as I have seen how they can further clients progress towards their goals. I see you as your own agent for change and I also strive to assist in their ability to further your understanding of self. You may hear me quickly speak to topics of internal dialogue, self-care, and stress management, as we assess wellness through a bio-psycho-social model (how biological, psychological and social aspects of our life intertwine in mental health). I also value the importance of how trauma can impact our present self, exploring it's impact on emotional regulation.

Life can be stressful. The demands we, as well as others, place upon us can steal our peace and happiness and leave us feeling overwhelmed. Often, we struggle to achieve some sense of balance while simultaneously feeling confused and discouraged. Anxiety, depression and trauma can affect every aspect of our lives – relationships, family life, work, schooling, even self-care and physical well-being. Therapy offers a time away from daily life and provides a comfortable place to reflect and regain a healthy perspective for living life fully.

Now accepting new patients in 2024. Sometimes, life does not go how we thought it would. Our relationships/marriages become broken, our children experience pain, our family is in conflict, we develop internal conflict, and we feel lost, empty, anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed. Reading books, seeking help online, and talking to friends, ministers, or coworkers do not seem to provide lasting results. I want to help you get lasting results. Contact me by email or confidentiality request an appointment anytime, 24/7, on my website. I look forward to hearing from you.

Most of my clients are stressed and often feel overwhelmed by life and the circumstances they find themselves in. Some are feeling stuck and stagnating while others feel like changes are happening quicker than they can keep up with. Relationships, jobs, or family are often at the center of why they may feel anxious or depressed. Regardless of why, you are here, reading my profile, and likely ready for a change. Many of my clients feel this way when they reach out. Most of my clients are aged mid-20s through their 50s and are seeking to cope with relationships, careers, alcohol or substance use, or other stressors of being an adult.

I work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, relationship issues, LGBT+ issues, or individuals trying to get out of a rut because they're tired of feeling stuck. Every client is unique and there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, but if you enjoy working toward positive behavior change, I think we'd be a good fit. I allow each client the space for us to process and explore issues together while also providing guidance and direction (most of my clients say it's a healthy mix of both).

I also work extensively with men who are wanting to achieve greater health, wholeness, and balance as providers, husbands, and fathers.
At Sanctuary Counseling Group, we believe in creating therapeutic relationships with our clients that promote the healing of heart, mind, and soul. What is most important to me is that those who come to me for treatment can feel safe, build trust to be who they are, and can focus on making themselves, their relationships, their marriage and family life better. It is always important to me to simply meet and accept people where they are and to partner with them on a journey to where they hope to be. Those who come for treatment deserve to feel understood, respected, and cared for along the way.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
