My ideal client is someone working through anxiety, depression, or trauma who wants to feel more in control of their life and future. They may be looking to process past experiences, build confidence, and find healthier ways to cope. I use a person-centered and EMDR approach, because I believe everyone has the ability to heal and grow. Therapy is a collaborative journey, and together we create a safe, supportive space to explore challenges. I also draw from CBT and other techniques to tailor therapy to each unique story, helping clients move toward the life they truly deserve.

Are you feeling like you are overwhelmed? Do you feel like there is a number of unresolved issues in your life? Do you have a history of trauma that you feel is affecting your life today? Have you noticed that you are withdrawing from others and maybe even isolating yourself? Do you lack the tools to live in society? Is there a lack of supportive people in your life? Do you have a substance issue? Are you self-medicating? Do you find that it is hard to express yourself in social settings? Has someone told you that you have "anger mgmt. issues?" Do you lack healthy coping skills and outlets? Are you constantly negative?

We are in network with all Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans, except BlueLocal.
I partner with clients to develop practical coping skills, enhance communication, establish healthy boundaries, and rediscover a sense of self-worth. Together, we can address life challenges, family and relationship struggles, or the impact of mental health and substance use concerns. My role isn’t to tell you who to be or what to do — it’s to support you in defining your own goals and creating a path toward the life you want. You are the expert on your own story; I’m here to walk alongside you, offering guidance, strategies, and encouragement as you navigate the rough terrain and celebrate the victories.

Overall, I believe that therapy is a place to learn and heal from current and past experiences. My primary goal as a counselor is to empower and provide skills to clients to help them flourish. I see children, adolescent, and adult populations, implementing an integrative approach, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. This means that I use many techniques and models, but I like to focus on current goals/solutions and altering unhelpful thinking patterns.

You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, or depression that makes it difficult to stay present, manage relationships, or adapt to important life or career transitions. Many clients describe feeling trapped in cycles of overthinking, weighed down by “what ifs,” or struggling to meet constant demands. Using CBT, I help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, understand the link between emotions and behavior, and practice strategies that reduce distress and restore a sense of control. Our work focuses on breaking entrenched patterns, strengthening resilience and clarifying goals, so you can move forward with greater balance.

My client's often see me because they feel stuck. The things that usually work aren't working the same and they are wanting to try something new - a different approach. We often work on discovering and exploring you and identifying your authentic self. This becomes a space to share with safety in mind and without judgement. We work through learning new skills, exploring the parts of our life that are contributing to the stress in our life, and learning that we don't have to be too hard on ourselves.

My clients have said: "I really love seeing Ms Julie. She makes me feel heard and seen. I feel like a valuable person, and no longer want to hurt myself." "Ms Julie helps me feel less anxious. She's easy to talk to and relate. We spend sessions laughing, sometimes crying, and she never gets upset when I cuss." "The roleplays we do in therapy are fun and help me think of different ways of handling life. I am better able to handle bullies at school now. I am better able to accept myself." "She never makes me feel stupid, or less than. She's always encouraging and asking questions that help me better understand myself."

An ideal client for me is someone who wants to work towards change but may need some gentle guidance. There is no one right way to journey through life, and I strongly believe that human connection and empathy help people learn to understand themselves and their needs better. I don't like to consider mental health challenges "issues" or "illnesses," but instead, a way of being that shapes how we interact with the world and people around us. Ideally, clients will want to learn how to reach larger goals to be their best self and prioritize their needs and feelings by learning healthy coping mechanisms and communication styles.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
